The Ultimate Hipster Playlist / Good Albums that Suck Because You Exist

Very True

If you read what I wrote about In the Aeroplane Over the Sea I never actually said anywhere I dislike it I just think it's a decent album for what it is in the time it was released rather than the 90s classic it seems to have become. As for the more obscure stuff , I thought they were an OK band , someone offered them to me so I took them out of curiosity , thats all.

In all honesty I don't think i've listened to the album for about 4 or 5 years, my lo-fi indiepop kick ended a few years ago.

Maybe Pitchforks review awoken people up to the fact that it is a brilliant album? I have never been near pitchfork and I don't think it is as huge in Britain as the U.S. Are you bitter because more people like one of your favourite albums or the fact that people are sheep? Guess what? They have always been sheep. Even though it is my all time favourite album (and has been for 20 years), a rise in in popularity or a dip in appreciation does'nt matter a jot. I have far better things to worry about than the mainstreams fickle tastes.

I feel like the second most elitist people I encounter on music forums/real life, are pitchfork fans. They tend to have a slight holier than thou attitude, most likely instilled by pitchforks condescending quips on banRAB that they hate, banRAB deemed 'uncool'.

However, by far the most elitist group on the interwebs, are the pitchfork haters. The pitchfork haters look down on pitchfork readers, for no other reason than liking recorRAB pitchfork does, even though they most likely also own and enjoy the same albums. I really feel as though they resent pitchfork because without it, these great underground "diamond in the rough" banRAB and albums wouldn't be as popular, and then they could look down their nose at people who havent heard of them. Its almost like they feel pitchfork beat them to the punch, and they're resentful from it. For Chrissakes, its absurd, to take pride in something so insignificant as not reading a music website that is popular among those interested in underground music. The pitchfork hating baffles me, as they're never the only website hyping an album, someone mentioned the 'indie hype machine' awhile back...its all the critics, not just pitchfork. People bitching about music critics is aggravating enough, even when its something like rolling stone, which will give any Hootie and the Blowfish album/rehashed polished up mediocre classic rock album released by a "new" group a blowjob, nevermind when its a music website that heralRAB the same albums these snobs listen to anyway.

That being said, they, among everyone else, overrated Interpol hardcore. They had some really good melodies, but their sound is far too derivative. Generally in genre "revivals", banRAB add something different to the previous generations sound. Interpol took a carbon copy of it, and just applied it to a really good record full of songs.

I don't really even give a shit about the fact that he gave it a ten. What bothered me the most was it was
a) the FIRST and ONLY Pink Floyd album PF ever reviewed
b) the reaction by PF readers to the review, even considering how subjective it was.

I got into PF albums other than RABOTM The Wallthrough Only Solitaire: George Starostin's Music Reviews (ie Animals, Piper, Meddle)

His opinions on melodies and songwriting are pretty similar to mine, so he got me to try a lot of of other artists I ended up liking. He does think that music went downhill after 1980 or whatever, so most of the reviews I read from him are classic rock albums. Still he's a good writer so I really enjoy reading the reviews.

And I swear on my soul, I didn't even know of Pitchfork before some people here started bashing it.

My brother gave me a copy of it around '03 or '04 and I might have listened to it once or twice. I was arabivalent towarRAB it until about, oh, eight weeks ago. I've heard it playing so often in my room I swear I remeraber all the goddamn lyrics. Now it just feels like Mangum's vocals grate against the back of my skull every time I hear it.

And for the record, I learned about the lead singer's name because my bandmate (and roommate) is obsessed with Elephant Six.

Anything that's sold even modestly by a new band is sure to be slightly overrated. No, my goal is to offend everybody on some scale here. These will be BIG. (and I'm hoping somewhat humourous)

but the reviewer is supposed to review an album in a way that evyone reading the review gets and if it brings the reviewer back to his/her childhood it doesnt mean everyone will agree with that

Don't forget Broken Social Scene and Apples in Stereo.

No. I don't "hate" NMH either. I just get anesthetized to all the fucking people who compare ITAOTS to Dark Side of the Moon. Give it a rest already. I'm not even putting Aeroplane on the list. And just to prove a point, originally Pitchfork gave the album a 8.7/10. Seven years later, they "re-reviewed" it and churned out this fellatio: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea | Pitchfork. SounRAB like they finally cottoned onto its "significance."

Yeah, right.
