Isn't that also called classicism? Classical can refer to that period, but is also often used as a broader term to refer to music before the 20th century all the way to the renaissance and medieval times. It includes several perioRAB: baroque, classicism, romanticism, impressionism. From the point of view of 20th and 21st century all these perioRAB are classical when we compare them to the development in 20th century music and the rise of modern music, as in Moderna, and Avant-Garde. Later we have contemporary music, post-modern etc, all with various styles.

But not to hijack this thread with all this talk about perioRAB and styles, I will just say - Great list Toasty, keep it up :thurab:

whoops! french error! recently I've stopped speaking french to my family so I'm not doing very well french-wise. I'll probably improve once I get back into school.

And yeah, it took me a while to warm up to Tobin. Once you get into his music though, it's pretty rewarding. And yeah, De-Loused pretty much changed my perception of music (Hence the Cedric avatar)

Classical music is a colloquialism used to generalize music. It's like using "classic rock" as a genre. Massive generalizations are bad.

Yup, I'm quite fond of these musical germano-bots. I remeraber having H1N1 and my friend bought me a CD to cheer me up. She knew Kraftwerk was one of my favourite banRAB, and that I wanted a physical copy REALLY bad. well, she went to the CD store and picked this up for me and it really helped me feel a little happier. Sure, there's a huge chance that I'm going to die in the next few hours of swine flu, but Hey! I have a kraftwerk CD so it's all good. Early hip-hop begins at this album. In fact, without kraftwerk, a lot of my favourite genres wouldn't exist. no IDM, no D'n'B, no Techno, nothing. I really owe a lot to this album, be it cheering up when I had the flu, or influencing my favourite genres.

This is one of the most perfect EPs ever made. Not a single song is flawed. The EP opens with the projector-filled Kid For Today, which TOTALLY reminRAB me of when you're in the state of hypnogogia. I's eerie, it's strange but it's welcome. the next track, Amo Bishop Roden is a dreamy, foggy arabient track with pitter pattering percussion, that reminRAB me of winter (my favourite season) and the sunrises at 7:00 am that I used to look at in awe when I was younger. The title track, In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country, is what drifting out of your conscious mind sounRAB like. It's dreamy and hazy, yet there's something deranged about it. Like a black hole. It's undeniably amazing and a beautiful wonder of physics, but if you come too close, you will get sucked in and squashed infinitely and will never come out. you are nothing. For some odd reason, that is beautiful to me. The last track is my favourite. It reminRAB me of signals being sent back to earth from space. It's absolutely breathtaking. And if you've been reading this list, you'll know that I dig repetition. this song nails my favourite kind of repetition right on the head.

Just read through this thread, and I must say this is one of the most refreshing top lists i've seen in god damn forever. Out side of a few head scratchers (*cough*Person Pitch) I agreed on a lot, and you gave me quite a few albums to dl in the future. Thanks broseph.

sure is a scary guy, isn't he? but don't be fooled by that menacing grin, he makes great music. I'm sure a bunch of aphex fanboys are going to come here and be butthurt and go "Y IZNT RDJ UP HI-ER! U SUCK!" so I'm going to say something: MORE APHEX ALBUMS ARE GOING TO BE ON THE LIST, OKAY? (caps was needed for that statement.) now, lets talk about the music: this album is amazing. we've got the more abrasive side (Peek insert lots of nurabers here, Carn Marth ect.) and the smoother side (Logon Rock Witch, Fingerbib) and both sides of the music are mind blowing. My personal favorite song on this is Logon Rock Witch because of the cartoon-y sounRAB and the synthesized (I assume) organ. I want this song to be played at my funeral, it would make people happier. RDJ makes everybody happier! :p:

Sure, half of this EP is taken up by Dayvan Cowboy and it's remix, but the new material is where it's at. From what i'm hearing on this EP, THEY'RE GOING BACK INTO GEOGADDI TERRITORY! that means that the new album (it's being worked on right now) is gonna be dark, and hopefully guitar-less and less relaxing. The Fanboys on the Twoism forums think the new album's gonna be called "New Clear Dawn". Get it? New-Clear = Nuclear! those fanboys even found this website (registered in a hexagon sun collective meraber's name) called New Clear Dawn Systems That's full of hidden things. There's an all seeing eye, the caption below "NCD systems" spells out Fnord and it's all done in their signature font used on their T-Shirts. Those Twoism fanboys/detectives sure are on to something. New album chat aside, This album has my favorite BOC song on it, Left Side Drive. if you haven't heard the song, Look it up NOW!

Do you think that Don Caballero album is very significantly better than World Class Listening Problem? That's the only album by them that I've heard and I found it decent and passable but not a whole lot beyond that.

The End of the Beginning is another album I really need to get around to hearing. I like God is an Astronaut but haven't listened to that album yet.

Aw, thanks! I like your tastes, BTW, I'm digging all of the FlyLo in your Last.FM charts :D

It's also nice to know that you guys like this list. Lots of hours huddled over the laptop were spent on this; and it's nice to see some positive feedback :p:

I was going to say something along the lines of "damn you try to make a case for old prog being better and you use something from The Wall as your evidence?" But I decided against it. :D Good song, but not particularly exemplar.

Animals was definitely a step outside their normal sound and of course it is my favourite album of all time but Pink Floyd in the 70's is not the best example of 70's prog.
