The Toasty 50

The Toasty 50

Hello, Fellow music banter-ers! I'm fairly new around here, and not many of you guys know me very well. In order for you guys to get to know me better, I've decided to compile a "top 50 albums" list. Just in case you guys didn't know, I call myself Toasty, why? Well, in grade two, I burnt my arm on a toaster, and I came to school and everybody started calling me toasty once they found out where the the burn on my arm came from. Now, the origin of my name aside, lets talk albums:

#50: Animal Collective: Merriweather Post Pavilion
cover.jpg

I bet you saw this coming. I usually don't like those REALLY popular hipster banRAB (Neutral Milk Hotel, for a good example.) but this album is really top notch. Every time you listen to it, you always hear a quirky sample you never heard before. Every song on here is a solid track, from In The Flowers to Brother Sport. And isn't the album art the best? the image above is moving, And it's a JPEG. I also love the singing on this album, It really stanRAB out on tracks like Guys Eyes and Taste. The only problem I have about this album is the repetition, but that doesn't really effect how much I love this album.

#49: Autechre: Tri Repetae

^Most imaginative album art ever. The amazing trippy album art aside, the music is pretty top notch. Autechre has a really cool style on this album. They take a really stripped down, minimal beat, and loop it, then a few seconRAB later, a new sound is added. this process of adding on goes on for a few minutes, and it sounRAB nothing like the beginning of the song. in fact, the music evolves, and it does so nicely. My personal favorite tracks were Stud and Eutow. If you want to start getting into IDM, this is a good place to start. a brilliant album, in my opinion.

Lift Yr. Skinny Fists? Come on, you're killing me!

Nah but seriously, other than that and the first two you posted, I haven't listened to the others at all. They sound pretty interesting, so i have some work to do.

Loving the inclusion of Person Pitch!

I've been a big Animal Collective/Panda Bear fan for quite some time, so always nice to see others who appreciate.

And lest I forget, the album cover (for Person Pitch) is one of my absolute favs!

Scrolled down the page, saw the golden head, and knew your next album choice even before reading any of the text :P

Great choice, btw
Awesome album!

#20: Amon Tobin: Foley Room

Ah, Amon Tobin. A guy that never ceases to amaze me with how far he'll go. A lot of artists Claim that they're pushing audio technology and science to the limits, but this guy actually Does push audio technology and science to it's limits. I have this CD lying around at home with the documentary accompanying it, and this guy is pretty interesting. He worked with a sound scientist to record a few of the sounRAB on the album, and recorded everything in a foley room. The song Ever Falling is a definite favorite of mine. It's so beautiful! no doubt He's one of the best electronic musicians. and the best looking one.

#19: And So I Watch You From Afar
And-So-I-Watch-You-From-Afar.jpg

Post Rock count?: 9. This is another favorite from 2009, It's the self titled album by Ireland's And So I Watch You From Afar. I heard some web music magazine obsessing over this, so I got it. well, was it worthy of the hype? you bet! There are some real gems on this album. Like the seven minute long epic Don't Waste Time Doing Things You Hate. If you haven't heard this song, GOLOOKITUPNAO! It's awesome. My other favorite from the album is Eat The City, Eat It Whole.. It's definitely the album's most moody track. I recommend this to fans of Explosions In The Sky and Post rock in general.

Thats the point! This album is about emotion! Tracks like avril 14th or brt 4 are like taking a breath before facing the mosnter. They're elevator songs, u listen to it till u get to the next level (floor) it's that simple and few people seem to understand that, wich is odd because its kinda obvious... People usually think its "trash" while in fact they're filling a purpose for the good listeners, or for those who bother to understand an album.

Yeah, not the catalogue as a whole, just felt Animals was a pretty definitive proggy album, though I would hardly be the best judge.

Also me fave from their lot.

Was wondering wtf BOC meant, then remerabered it stood for BoarRAB of C***s.

Heck,Tobin isn't even an IDM artist.

Either way, dunno how anyone can hate an album with Rosies on it.

EDIT - Splinter Cell soundtrack also kicked arse.

*Loses all respect for you*
Nah jk, but this is a pretty bold thing for a newbie to do. I'm still finishing my 1000. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

#33: Aphex Twin: DrukQs

You bet. sure, this album has been criticized for having an awful lot of filler, but that's not a big problem for me. this album has one of the best electronic tracks EVER! on it. what is that song? Mt. Saint Michel + Saint Michael's Mount. Pure gold, that song. it starts off with a strange synth line and bells. after the relatively quiet intro, the assault begins. in a flurry of drum machines and hardcore synths, it begins to slow down. not for long, though. It speeRAB up and gets choppier. The ending result is amazing. if you didn't like this song, listen to it the entire way through, then you'll get it.

EDIT: I only wrote one review because I'm tired and I couldn't think any longer.

Well, I couldn't decide on the #11 spot so I had to invent a new nuraber that's between 12 and 11.

#Pinecone: Mogwai: Young Team
mogwai_young_%28big%29.jpg

This is one of my favourite album covers. sure is pretty, isn't it? this album is also responsible for my post-rock fan-girl-ism, and it's also responsible for my friend's current Mogwai obsession. This album has a very rainy, sad feeling to it. This is an album meant to be listened to in the winter, at night. It fits the mood very well. Some of my favourite songs on this album are Tracy, Yes! I Am A long Way From Home!, and A Cheery Wave From Stranded Youngsters. Yes! I Am A Long Way From Home is probably the best album opener ever, with the highly emotional vocal sample at the beginning and the quiet, atmospheric arabiance of the song.Tracy is another album favourite, with another highly emotional vocal sample at the beginning. This is the song that brought me to tears on the album. A Cheery Wave From Stranded Youngsters sounRAB like it belongs in a crime drama opening sequence, for some reason. This album is quite quiet by the way, so expect to turn it up loud.

(i'm only writing one review because there's an explanation with the other review)
