The smallest smartphone: Nokia 5500d (a user review)

The screen is a bit odd compared to most but it's got excellent sharpness and color IMO.

When you hold the menu key you'll get the tasklist. 'Sport' mode is always on and you can't close it. Is there a way to change this to Music mode??

BTW has anybody found a good filemanager/clean-up tool that works on the 5500? I've tried a few but they didn't install.

y-browser should work as its s60v3. Sport mode can be closed if you connect it to pc and and then disconnect it. But it will reset to sports mode if you switch your phone off. of if you select it manually. I dont so i dont have this problem.

I just now got around to noticing this particular post and I must say that I was completely amazed. That phone is unbelievable!!!! I need this phone in 850 desperately. A great 2nd phone for dirty work situations (which are many).....gotta hope!!

BTW...what's the worst you've put your phone through so far?

^ unfortunately, my 5500 might not see much action for now, coz i might sell it... it is sitting on its box... but dont get me wrong, i like the phone it is perfect for running and power walks and of course the beach... i have taken it a couple of times while running...

once you have started the music player you will immediately notice that the D-pad color will change from bright white to yellow and will match the wallpaper on the music player, neat?

you can control the music player by just tapping the phone: play and pause is 2x tap on the top-front keypad (no specific keypad and you don?t need to press it just light tapping will do) FFW or RW is 2x tap on the right or left sides of the phone... the phone has a sort of motion sensors...

which bring us to the GROOVE LABYRINT 3D Game using the phone sensors...

wehn the 5500 support site was up this game Groove Lab was free for download, so I downloaded it, thingking that I can use it for the E61... of course it didnt work, rigthly so, coz to control the game you need to have some sensors for your phone which the 5500 has...

the object of the game is to roll your marble (yes, you have a marble) on the maze and hit some crystall objects within a time period, all this you will do by just holding your phone and just rolling it from side to side and the marble will roll and you controll the speed and the direction on how you hold and tilt your phone, no need for any keypad work, hence you wont break your keypad on this game, quite neat i would say!

hey fried brains, does this phone use the standard nokia charger or is it the smaller nokia charger like on the n70?

Also i heard this has a usb2.0 port as well as pop port? or is that incorrect?

Another nice find but the phone looks surprisingly big in his hands. In fact, it looks HUGE. Are his hands that tiny or is the phone bigger than I thought?

Not in this case

...no 850...no signal

I really wish my company would switch to T-mobile but for now I get my calling plan paid for completely along with unlimited Data So that's a deal I cant refuse.

That's probably because you also have installed everything to your phone memory, It might help to rather install programs to a memory card.

As far as I know the 1900 band does work in DC....in fact the 1900 band works in many places in the US. Especially with UTMS now using 1900 in the US it means you will have a greater chance of having the 1900 band avaliable.
