I know. Wish they kept that.
Anywho, I'm pretty much done with the DVD. Had all I needed to see. All in all, I say this season was a little bit better than season 11, but while watching the season, there was a odd form of consistency in the episodes. When the episode focused on its' plot, it was good (Trilogy of Error, HOMR, Lisa The Tree Hugger, Hungry, Hungry Homer), but when it didn't, it spawned crap and confusion known as bad episodes (New Kids On The Blecch, Simpson Safari). Either way, I have a fe bones to pick on this season. What was up with all of the wacky and gross out jokes in this season? (myself, I'm not bothered by it too much, but it it's taken to a low approach...)!
And another thing. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but for this season, it looked like Scully and the writers actually tried to put in some emotional moments into this season (Insane Clown Poppy, Pokey Mom, I'm Going To Praiseland, HOMR), but becuase they were so used to making gags a minute, they couldn't do it right. The intent was there, but the creativity wasn't. What happened?
So yeah, rambling aside, better than season 11, but not by much. Lots of good and above average episodes, but the whole output still had a glaring problem to fully embrace it. I hope the things I heard about season 13 are true.
And now, a few more fun facts for those of you who don't have the DVD. SPOILERS though:
-"Bye Bye Nerdie" was going to have a completely different thrid act originally (it involved Lisa going to juvenile hall for accidentally punching Skinner). Why it was change? Not sure. Probably a rewire room thing.
-The crayon thing in HOMR was NOT Al Jean's idea. Al didn't say who the writer was.
-According to a poster on No Homers, there was a deleted scene in "Day of the Jackanapes" that wasn't on the DVD that involved Sideshow Marge (you know, referencing Eight Misbehavin'). You guys want me to find the post to see if I'm not lying?
