"The Simpsons: The Twelfth Season" DVD Talkback (Spoilers)

I know. Wish they kept that.

Anywho, I'm pretty much done with the DVD. Had all I needed to see. All in all, I say this season was a little bit better than season 11, but while watching the season, there was a odd form of consistency in the episodes. When the episode focused on its' plot, it was good (Trilogy of Error, HOMR, Lisa The Tree Hugger, Hungry, Hungry Homer), but when it didn't, it spawned crap and confusion known as bad episodes (New Kids On The Blecch, Simpson Safari). Either way, I have a fe bones to pick on this season. What was up with all of the wacky and gross out jokes in this season? (myself, I'm not bothered by it too much, but it it's taken to a low approach...)!

And another thing. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but for this season, it looked like Scully and the writers actually tried to put in some emotional moments into this season (Insane Clown Poppy, Pokey Mom, I'm Going To Praiseland, HOMR), but becuase they were so used to making gags a minute, they couldn't do it right. The intent was there, but the creativity wasn't. What happened?

So yeah, rambling aside, better than season 11, but not by much. Lots of good and above average episodes, but the whole output still had a glaring problem to fully embrace it. I hope the things I heard about season 13 are true.

And now, a few more fun facts for those of you who don't have the DVD. SPOILERS though:
-"Bye Bye Nerdie" was going to have a completely different thrid act originally (it involved Lisa going to juvenile hall for accidentally punching Skinner). Why it was change? Not sure. Probably a rewire room thing.

-The crayon thing in HOMR was NOT Al Jean's idea. Al didn't say who the writer was.

-According to a poster on No Homers, there was a deleted scene in "Day of the Jackanapes" that wasn't on the DVD that involved Sideshow Marge (you know, referencing Eight Misbehavin'). You guys want me to find the post to see if I'm not lying?

Another strange thing I noticed about this set is that the Homer-holding-a-pennant-for-current-joke gag is really overused this season. For instance, I'm currently watching Day Of The Jackanapes, and at the beginning of the episode The Simpsons are watching that Who Wants To Be A Millionare parody and Homer is holding a "Game Show" pennant. I know I have seen the joke several other times so far as I'm watching the set, I just can't think of specific examples right now. It is kind of a funny joke, but I noticed that it is used a lot this season.

I think it might be in Season 13 (though I don't recall which episode) where we see that Homer has an entire umbrella stand full of pennants for any occasion. After that, I think they retired the gag for good.

I saw that also but there is no way to back that up

I posted those. I got them from an animator when these episodes first aired. Don't know which scenes made it to the DVD, but here is my list of deleted scenes from this particular episode:

After Wiggum's "Is it Pittsburgh?", we see his police cruiser drive behind him. Nelson is driving.
Nelson, like a siren: "Haw haw!"
Wiggum (quickly): "I should probably go."

Bart: "You'll never get away with this, Bob. When Skinner finds out I'm missing, he'll... (realizes) What're you gonna do to me?"

After Marge's "Look! Krusty invited us to the taping of his last episode," Lisa said: "Well, I would hope so. Bart & I got him out of jail," followed by Homer: "And I helped him win his daughter back," followed by Marge again: "And don't forget I was Sideshow Marge."
We now see a FLASHBACK.
Marge is dressed like Sideshow Mel, with a bone in her hair, standing on Krustys' stage. She examines a pie as Krusty stands nearby.
Marge: "This is such a lovely pie. It would go great with a glass of milk."
Krusty: "Just throw the damn thing!"
BACK TO THE PRESENT.
Marge: "Oh, I let him have it. Carefully sliced on a paper plate."

Kent: "And here comes Krustys' favorite cutups - Itchy and Scratchy."
Itchy and Scratchy walk up, in tuxes.
Kent: "So what are you fellas gonna do, now that the show's over?"
Scratchy: "We can finally reveal our deep, dark secret."
Itchy: "We're lovers!"
Kent gasps.
Itchy: "Of collectable plates."

Krusty: "Well, old pal..."
Sideshow Mel: "You're not my 'pal'...!"
Krusty makes confused noies.
Mel: "In 8,5 years, have you ever had me over to your house, even once?"
Krusty: "Eh...I was gonna call you next week."
Mel: "Do you even know my last name?"
Krusty: "Well I...(to Audience) Sideshow Mel, everyone! Great bit!"
Audience APPLAUDS.

These two made it on the DVD. The others didn't.

However, the DVD has a deleted scene that was a continuation of Bart's "I was at the flower shop" routine.
