The Simpsons needs to go

There's probably a topic like this made but this website showed me more reasons why it sucks now

http://deadhomersociety.wordpress.com/

Although I disagree with some of the stuff said, that website shows more points to how the show lost it.

Disclaimer: IMO they will still be good episodes and moments but it just isn't enough to keep the show going, also this should be a grand example to why a show shouldn't be on the air this long. Seinfeld ended when they were at their 'peak' and The Simpsons should have done the same and let King of The Hill, Family Guy and Futurama be the new 'big shows' of the late 1990's/early 2000's.

Hehe, I discovered Dead Homer Society a few months ago - I Googled "please end the simpsons" after reading about how Russell Brand was going to guest voice. it's great. It's very pedantic, but it gives me a huge sense of relief that someone out there has unofficially separated "The Simpsons" and "Zombie Simpsons." :D It points out a number of things that I'd noticed but hadn't quite put my finger on about why it's only a shadow of its former self.

Needless to say, I completely agree, though if it wanted to go out on a high it should've happened about 10 years ago. Once the 22nd series has finished, only 50% of Simpsons episodes will actually be above average (let alone head and shoulders above everything else).

Out of curiosity and boredom, I watched a recent episode where Lisa went on some art course for a week, and it was so unbelievably dull. Plain and simply, I haven't laughed at The Simpsons since '98 or so, and I've otherwise long refused to watch anything after season 9.

I haven't watched an episode of The Simpsons for a good few years. I used to watch every sunday night when the new ones aired but lost interest a long time ago. I'm more into Family Guy and American Dad now.

In which case, maybe as an experiment they should consider doing a whole season (rather than just one episode, like Lisa's Wedding) where the Springfield residents have aged by 10 years or so, in the vein of Rugrats: All Grown Up. It's not like they'd have much to lose, considering so many former fans find the current show to be a load of shit. So rather than hark back to what used to make the show great, an experiment like the above could breathe some new life into it. It could be like Lisa's Wedding, but expanded further.

I would definitely tune in to see that!! I think that it part of the problem. It is becoming stale the characters don't age and it just gets same old every season.

Bad Simpsons is still better than most things... and there are still good and great episodes.
I know people care about them losing their 'shine' but if asked whether I had to watch a poorer new simpsons or 2 Pints of Larger, I would go for the former.
They could take a break and do specials or movies... but for the Simpsons to just "stop" would be a shame and a part of my childhood just, dying. They have always been there.

Lots of people still watch it. I still download every Monday, though I tend to drift off when I watch it:o

Why does it 'need to go' OP. Can't you simply stop watching it?

Besides, without the simpsons, Sky one would cease to exist to me.

The ratings have been declining for many years and Sky1 could just show all the old eps and for me theres always new modern family and the middle to watch

Many people would choose a colonoscopy over 2 Pints of Lager. It's hardly a recommendation.

The problem is we're well past the point of merely losing the shine off it's heydey. That was what happened around seasons 9 to 11. These days it's simply an embarrassment to what the show once was. I find it more painful to watch these once great characters delivering such poor material than I would to find the show stopped. I'd rather watch Homer the Heretic for the millionth time than watch new episodes now. :(

Same can be said for the vast majority of long running shows.
Never heard of Modern Family and The Middle looks awful so I'll stick with the new, often boring, rarely funny, but still better than 'Bart gets an F' for the millionth time, episodes.:)

That's pretty much what I've been doing for the past decade - watching the first 9 seasons every now and again. :D They never get old.

Then again, the past is always best for some reason.

idk, I still get excited to see a new episode.
The ricky gervaise ones was embarassing though. that's been the only one I couldnt watch and didnt enjoy... i wonder what happened to the material and situations anyway? maybey they should think about quality rather than quantity now.

Totally agreed. I'd call myself a fan of the Simpsons, yet I'm disappointed if I press the info button on my TV and see that the upcoming episode is one I haven't seen before. I gave up watching the "newer" episodes a few years ago - around the time Maude Flanders got killed. Every new one I've seen since then has been utter shite.

As the above poster says, I'd far rather watch an old repeat that I've seen loaRAB of times before!

Channel 4 should get there act together and get new eps and there is new eps if you know where to look!!!! *cough*search google for watch the simpsons online *cough*
