The Simpsons needs to go

The Gervais episode was embarrassing, and I say that as a massive fan of The Office, but I feel being that bad is the norm now. I've watched new episodes and not so much as raised a smile throughout.

I think that at one point it was fair to say that despite not being what it once was, it was still better than a lot of shows, but now I can't even say that. It's just poor, and it's worse in the case of The Simpsons than in other shows because of how good it can be.

I dont mind s17, some good episodes - "the seemingly never ending story"

I wouldnt say that anything since s9 is unwatchable, there are some good episodes, there are some terrible episodes, but on whole, still good.

The last season however, was completely shocking.. given up on the newest season after turning the first episode off after 5 minutes. appauling.

IMO the guest appearances by celebrities have been dire. They're usually only good if they're providing a voice for a new character (such as Christina Ricci in Summer of 4 Ft.2, or Harvey Fierstein in Simpson And Delilah), rather than appearing as themselves (Simon Cowell, Tony Blair, etc.)

The new episodes are a bit hit and miss IMO, but since they switched to HD last season for some reason I think the episodes have started to get better, after years of steady decline, although watching the current episodes it does feel a very family show now, in comparison to how it used to be, when they were the new kiRAB on the block.

I liked the episode where Carl got promoted and Homer became his PA, that was enjoyable, there was one on Sky1 last night where Lisa was studying something for Black history month and she discovered her family history, which dare I say it I enjoyed.

Granted they do make some real dud episodes, but they've started picking up again after years of decline. I taped every episode from S1 up until sometime in 2004 when I just gave up as they were getting so poor, the last one I had enjoyed from the 2000's was the one where Homer discovered a dead body when he was a child, finding out it was Smithers Senior, which was a good episode, but even then that was far from perfect. For me it really started going pants when at beginning of episodes of you'd usually "The Simpons are off to... (location)!" "YAAAAY!!!"

Alot of people I've spoke to about this are agreed that The Simpsons started going poor when Futurama started in 1999, which probably isn't the least bit surprising.

It's nice to see the older episodes on Channel 4 because I think they are the good episodes but I don't bother with the newer ones on Sky1, I can't tell you why I don't like them because I don't know I just know I don't find them funny or care about seeing them. I would rather watch repeats of South Park which I think is a lot funnier and more relevant than The Simpson's will EVER be.
