Spoiler: (highlight to read)
When asked about the process of expanding The Simpsons from a half-hour to 90 minutes, Brooks quipped, "It's been rough. We worked at it for a long time and then found out that Snakes on a Plane was doing the same story." Groening then introduced a couple of black & white animatics from the movie. In the first piece, the good people of Springfield have formed an angry mob and are after Homer for some reason. When the mob manages to bust into the Simpsons home, Maggie has to fend off sea captain Horatio McCallister’s pet monkey with a broken milk bottle. In the second clip, Homer is driving a dog sled across a snowy terrain. His incessant whipping is avenged when he stops to set up camp and the dogs start ripping him to shreds. As the dogs are running away, Homer sighs and whines, "Oh, why does everything I whip leave me?"

Plotline Rumor:

- Note this includes the most credible plotline given at this time. (Source)

Spoiler: (highlight to read)
It's just another day in the office for Homer, however when he accidentally pollutes the river with toxic waste he is unceremoniously fired from his job at the nuclear power plant. As if this wasn't bad enough, the townsfolk are forced to evacuate Springfield, from Moe's Tavern to the Kwik-E-Mart...quite possibly forever. Doh.

Season 9 DVD:

From the movie animatic on Disc 1

Spoiler: (highlight to read)
Tony_Montana: Okay, I've watched disc 1 now, and there is a new Simpsons movie animatic on it where outside of the Simpson's house, Homer has filled a silo with pig crap because he's become farmer and Marge wants him to dispose of it (also she said "God spoke to us for a reason" I don't know about what exactly, but it might have been about Homer becoming a farmer). So he drives it to a lake that has a lot of signs all around it that say that you're not allowed to dump waste there. Then he drives through the signs (each sign tells/begs him to stop) and crashes through a wall and dumps the ****.

Quotes:

"That trailer is running on 7,000 screens this weekend, committing us to opening every place in the world on the same date, which means, we'd better get started." -- James L. Brooks, March 06

"We've taken script security to the point of lunacy, though it helped that we wrote it in Aramaic." -- Mike Scully, March 06

"We've also set Albert Brooks, Minnie Driver and the real Erin Brockovich, so you should be able to deduce the plot just from that information." -- Al Jean, March 06

"We tried to save this until the end of the series, but that intention was undone by good ratings." -- Matt Groening, March 06

"The movie has been so daunting, and the contract between us has always been to wait until we all felt the script was right. We tell a feature-length movie story with each episode, but we feel we now have a story and script worthy of a movie. And there was so much secrecy that it's actually a relief to be able to speak about it now." -- James L. Brooks, March 06

"We felt the time was right for a movie," Groening says. "And for Milhouse to win an Oscar."

"It’s been rough. We worked at it for a long time and then found out that Snakes on a Plane was doing the same story." -- James L. Brooks, July 23rd, 2006

Loose Ends:

I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but Nancy was on Rove Live the other night. She wasn't allowed to say anything about the movie we don't already know though, but she did hint when Rove asked about celebrity cameos that there would be more than the one's already revealed... she just couldn't name any names. - TerrorK

(Note she could have meant Kelsey Grammer or Joe Mantegna).

Outside of Marge's use of a...certain word, Bart's doodle, and Homer flipping everyone off, I really didn't see anything that couldn't be shown in a regular episode. I kind of expected them to put the PG-13 rating to full use.

Sweet Christmas, Moto Pete. Talk about Simpsons overload.

Well the movie start today here in Puerto Rico so I'll be seeing the movie twice once in english and the other in spanish. Be back later with a review.

It's funny, too, talking about audiences... most everyone is in such a rush to leave the theater when the movie is over that when the extra stuff started happening in the credits (photos of who voiced what; the family commenting on the credits), those who got up early just stood, hovering around the Exit area, watching the credits while standing. Silly moviegoers. :p

BTW, I loved Homer's line during the credits: (paraphrasing) "All these people worked hard on the film, it's only fair to ask every moviegoer to sit here and memorize their names." :D

I concur, my Borishy friend.

The movie was great! I had my doubts, but this movie was better than the recent episodes of The Simpsons!

This was my second time seeing the movie, it was awfully good! The Itchy & Scratchy short, Bart and Flanders, Lisa and Colin, Homer being just Homer and he actually listened to Marge, Maggie, President Arnold, and more.

Still, Dr. Nick had to die?!

And, you think Bart and Lisa would've communicated a little bit more?

Where's the "Worst... Movie... Ever!" option (not that I'm saying that the film is going to be bad; just a little joke to stay true to the Simpsons)?

Just saw it. For once, bless Europe. So, here's Starsky's Spoiler-Filled Practical Tips In Order To Achieve An Overall Great Cinematic Experience!

After seeing the VCR Marge left for him, Homer falls asleep while contemplating a picture of his wife, and during his sleep, he suffers that Escher-esque revelation that, in the movie, is pointlessly created by some awful out-of-the-blue character we shall never speak of again. He wakes up and leaves to Springfield, having the exact same waaacky adventures but without awful out-of-the-blue characters we shall never speak of again (and this time I mean it) popping up in the sky to warn him! It's not so hard, Jean and Scully! Just let the other writers handle it!

I'll give the movie a subject-to-change 4/5. Good stuff otherwise.

I agree with Speedy, I think the movie experience would've been better if it wasn't for those darn kids. Like you I had the moment when people were signing the Spider-pig song. I will see the movie a second time after the hype dies down or break down and buy a Blu-Ray player.

When I was able to watch the movie I thought it was a decent, awesome animation, good use of CG, beautiful soundtrack, and not relying on famous people for the voices. The movie felt like it was going back to it roots I just wish we had the Homer from the earlier seasons.

Just came back from the movies. I thought it was great! It felt like a moive for a series. Everyone is saying it's a 4 part episode on the big screen. I think not!

And yes, there was a teaser trailer to Batman: The Dark Knight but it wasn't all that! It was just a blue screen with the bat logo breaking and a bunch of voices.

I liked how this movie used the PG-13 to it's extent with Homer flipping everyone off, Bart's privates being shown, Marge stating, "Just throw the god damn bomb."

My only gripes were the ending seemed to rushed and too simple. There were some moments that left you saying, "What happened to...................and why did they..............."

But overall, good movie for a 18 year old franchise.

I didn't get to see the Dark Knight Teaser. The movie was playing on three different screens, so I guess it was only showing on one. I just got previews for Alviin & The Chipmunks, Daddy DayCamp, and other forgettable releases.

Saw a midnight show of this last night - thus avoiding the problem of the eight million kids. I'm not surprised it's doing this well - Fox marketed the hell out of this one, and at the movie I saw before this (yes, I saw two movies in one night, go me), there were real long lines at the individual theatres waiting to get in to see the movie.

As for the movie itself - it was very remniscent of classic era (2-8) episodes. I'm not saying it's up there with the greats, but it definitely has that certain feeling that seems to have gotten lost over the years. It's a "mix tape", to me, of the various humor styles the show has gone through - the rapid-pace non sequitur joke style (Mirkin, 5-6), the jerkass Homer-centered stuff (Scully), and - yes - the irreverent emotional center from seasons 1-4. Voices were solid as usual, and the decision to put in "A. Brooks" (they had to credit him as that, it's tradition!), the best guest star vocalist aside from Hartman and Grammer, was a no-brainer.

My issue is pacing. The first half of the movie is brilliant. It's only after the Cargill stuff starts that the movie begins to run out of steam a little bit and doesn't really end up recovering. I don't think they really built him up enough and made his motives a little clearer. Yes, I know the complaints about the Springfield cast but the lack of attention devoted to Cargill is a much more significant issue imo.

So, it's a solid B+. It's a great movie, it shows that yes, they CAN get back to the old style, but it's not tp the level of the classic era. (Although CHUD.com said something that sums it up best - if a program puts together five seasons of programming that brilliant, you have to give it more leeway in the later years)

And yes, it should have been President Wolfcastle.

Well I just came back from seeing the movie and it was pretty good. Some spoilers ahead.

Pros

- The opening.

- Grandpa Simpson vision.

- Homer and Spider Pig scenes.

- Maggie did a lot more stuff than she has in the past two seasons of the show.

- Homer fliping everyone up and then getting stuck in the sink hole.

- Tom Hanks credibility.

- Grand Theft Walrus.

-the Medicine Lady aka Boob Lady  . It was both hilarious and creppy at the same time.

- Homer spiritual quest.

-The president Arnold scenes.

- Homer and Bart riding a bike scene.

- The ending with Homer and Marge.

- The ending credits.

Cons

- Was Lisa plot really neccesary? Not Bono son( I forgot his name) didn't really did do much in the story.

- The scene with a nude Bart and Nelson was somewhat cruel.

- Maggie "first" word was really predictable.

WTF???

- So what was the deal with Groundkeeper Willy having his hair and beard black? It supposed to be red.

- "Good bye everybody" Good bye Dr Nick :crying: .

Overall it was good movie. I enjoy it a lot. I do wish it had been a bit longer.
8/10
Btw does anyone knows if the Spider Pig Theme( the one that appears in the ending credits and during Homers spiritual quest) appears in the Simpsons movie soundtrack? Because it was awesome and I want for my Ipod.

For me the movie was better than all the simpsons episodes combined and I seen almost all episodes of the simpsons, exept for the last season since I was without cable for a couple of months.

Altough sometimes got to preachy a la Season 1 and 2. it also had some of the fantasy of Seasons 4-7 and the cool gags from 8-to current.

Every show has it's dozen of bad episodes and it's dozen of good ones, not even the classic era was safe from bad episodes.(and believe me I get to see Season 6 and 10 everyday...) but it was still a great movie and it deserves to be doing well.

I hope they don't make a sequel cause' it will ruin the magic of this one... Like it said on the Poll: "I can die now!" lol the circle is now complete.. after 17 years of watching the simpsons it was worth the wait

anyone else notice that a plot point in the movie, stopping the pollution in lake springfield, was a plot point in a recent episode of family guy where lois wants to stop pollution in lake quahog
