The Saddest Songs Ever

Aw, but I love the cheese! And you have to give him credit for the variety of instrumentation he uses. Your friend is stupid if they think he sounRAB like Drake though...

Can't be bothered to look back and see if anyone's mentioned this little chestnut yet, but here goes...

^ Very probably the saddest breakup song of all time.

U2 - With or Without you

Saw a video years ago where a man hugs this girl for a long time in an elevator lobby. Looks like maybe a break up or a goodbye of sorts. Then the dude gets on the elevator and he shoots himself. This song was playing in that video and that always stuck with me.

You Know You're Right- Nirvana (last song recorded before suicide)

Butterfly- Weezer

Heart of Gold- Whoever the hell it was...

I Would do Anything for Love- Meatloaf (I guess lyrically it enRAB on a positive note, but it still feels pretty soraber when I hear it.)

Hmm, interesting thread. I like or love sad music, it makes me feel better :D

Four examples...

The Rose by Bette Midler, it is about death and the end of life. But then it tells you there is hope. My late husband and i met over a rose and my girlfriend sang it at his funeral because he knew he was dying but still wanted me to be happy once he was gone

A few Cohen tunes:
Seems So Long Ago, Nancy
Avalanche
Dress Rehearsal Rag
The Letters
Hallelujah (A different kind of sad)
Death Of A Ladies Man (Another strangely sad one)-
Ah the man she wanted all her life was hanging by a thread
"I never even knew how much I wanted you," she said.
His muscles they were nurabered and his style was obsolete.
"O baby, I have come too late." She knelt beside his feet.
"I'll never see a face like yours in years of men to come
I'll never see such arms again in wrestling or in love."
And all his virtues burning in the smoky Holocaust
She took unto herself most everything her lover lost
Now the master of this lanRABcape he was standing at the view
with a sparrow of St. Francis that he was preaching to
She beckoned to the sentry of his high religious mood
She said, "I'll make a place between my legs,
I'll show you solitude."

He offered her an orgy in a many mirrored room
He promised her protection for the issue of her worab
She moved her body hard against a sharpened metal spoon
She stopped the bloody rituals of passage to the moon

She took his much admired oriental frame of mind
and the heart-of-darkness alibi his money hides behind
She took his blonde madonna and his monastery wine --
"This mental space is occupied and everything is mine."

He tried to make a final stand beside the railway track
She said, "The art of longing's over and it's never coming back."
She took his tavern parliament, his cap, his ****y dance,
she mocked his female fashions and his working-class moustache.

The last time that I saw him he was trying hard to get
a woman's education but he's not a woman yet
And the last time that I saw her she was living with some boy
who gives her soul an empty room and gives her body joy.

So the great affair is over but whoever would have guessed
it would leave us all so vacant and so deeply unimpressed
It's like our visit to the moon or to that other star
I guess you go for nothing if you really want to go that far.

It's like our visit to the moon or to that other star
I guess you go for nothing if you really want to go that far.

It's like our visit to the moon or to that other star
I guess you go for nothing if you really want to go that far.

For the longest time I thought "Yesterday" by the Beatles was the saddest song I'd ever heard. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe it just lost it's effect. It used to make me cry every time. Maybe it's just the situation I'm in. Anyways.

hmmm. the whole pink moon album by nick drake is kinda sad, mostly because it was his last, and you can't help but associate all the songs with him dying. blah.

ALSO, bluebells by patrick wolf had been getting to me lately.

^ Gary Jules sung it perfectly, but the Tears for Fears (original) version completely sucked.

Loneliest Person (the last track on S. F. Sorrow) is pretty sad. What's awesome is it really is just a great vocal performance, no mistakes about it.

I think Tears in Heaven is one of the saddest songs of all time, but you have to listen to it in a quiet place by yourself to get the true effect of it. Also it is heartbreaking to hear him sing it in his live stuff
