The Rock n Roll Years 1956-1989 Who Remembers it?

I caught the beginning of the 1968 documentary, it had footage of Otis Reding in concert (he died in 1967) and a clip of that 'if you're going to San Francisco' song, a hit in 1967.

Not the best of starts if it was attempting to concentrate on all things '68!

Was fascinated by the Bobby Kennedy story that came after it.

Just a thought, but why don't they just show them anyway and wait and see who, if anybody, complains?:D

I remember watching Rock and Roll Years as a teenager in the 80s too. I was obsessed with 60s music so it was great to see that on TV.

I seem to remember them repeating various episodes of Ready Steady Go on BBC2 some time in the mid 80s too. They should show that again on BBC4 as well.

Over 13,000 people have viewed this thread since it was started and we have over 100 posts so far, if we keep this up we have a good chance of it returning to our screens soon, so go back through the posts and clink on the facebook link and join our campaign!

Thanks.

There were 4 CRAB released with music from the shows.

I only bought 2 of them (60s & 70s), must be damn near impossible to get the others now.

This was a show first broadcast in the mid eighties. It covered the years 1956-1989. The format of the show was current affairs, world news and a few novelty items with the years music played in the background, usually with a few newspaper headlines and the narration was done in subtitle form at the bottom of the screen.

I'm a big fan of the show. Does anybody out there remember it? does anyone know if the BBC show it on BBC 3 OR 4?.

Well '67 does run into '68 story and music wise, example Otis died in '67 and his last hit, Dock Of The Bay written in '67, was released posthumously in '68.

Are there any of the episodes online at all? Youtube or Google Video? The episodes I seem to remember were repeated some time in the 90s...why weren't the licencing issues a concern then? I agree it would make fantastic viewing BBC 9pm on any day, but if the BBC arent willing to pay the aritists (and many will argue that they shouldnt) then theres not a lot we can do.

In 2008 many episodes from the series were posted on You Tube by one user but these were subsequently removed. It may be worth a look to see if any have been posted since.

I thought it was really good. I don't know if they'll be repeated on terrestrial TV though. I can't remember the last time they were: early 90s maybe? They should be because not everyone has satellite channels where similar programmes are shown.

As a teenager in the 1980s, I learned a lot about 60s and 70s music and history by watching programmes like this. It's a shame more people can't watch it and enjoy it again.

I've got them all on video, I taped them myself from the programmes. Each video held three programmes if I remember rightly. Haven't played them for years, and now I've got no VCR, only a PVR!

I've got quite a few of them on DVD which I lovingly transferred from VHS a couple of years ago. I have 1956-59, 1961, 1968-77 and 1981-89.

An excellent series that really could do with a repeat
