The Road to Corrie (BBC4)

Fantastic. One of the best things I've seen all year. :)

They showed the first episode on the 40th anniversary too and hopefully it'll get another airing this year.

I haven't watched CS since the early 80's but Like you I made a point of watching this.

It certainly reminded me of the good old days. (Whenever I catch a glimpse now, it seems like a comedy).

I've never rated Jesse in anything else but thought she was brilliant in this.

No-one else at work saw it!

Well I loved it, yes it was about Corries beginning but it was also good drama in its own right, I found it ended far too soon and found myself wishing they had actually made a series ( I am sure they could find plenty of behind screen stuff to fill scripts ) and not just a one off

Nita Valerie, who played a factory cleaner in Corrie in 1966. The photo during the credits must be picture of her in that role.

I have just watched the first episode on YouTube - very well worth watching. You can see the flying ducks on the wall of Elsie Tanner's house. For those who remember the early days it is interesting to see the characters who were soon written out, and amazing to think that fifty years later Ken Barlow is still in the same programme.

I mentioned in the ratings thread that Jessie Wallace could be an outsider for a BAFTA nomination possibly? I never thought she could act much prior to watching this, but she was terrific and the screen lit up when she was on.

June 1964 the Oggies moved in. .

The Viaduct crash is in the 60's boxed set, but I remember they always only ever showed the short clip when David finds Ena under the rubble. What also sticks out about that to me was that the policeman in that episode was Walker from Dad's Army! lol

Is that tea lady who gave him tea and biscuits going to be the one who said Florizel Street sounded like a disinfectant?
That was my first thought when I saw her, anyway!

Thought this programme was fantastic. Watched Coronation Street just about all my life, visited the set in the late eighties and again in 1997 and have a fascination about how old TV programmes were made, so this was perfect. Only problem being that it was too short! It would have been great if they had a second part which looked at how the programme went from being a 13-part series to a continuous one, and how it quickly went from being shown in various regions until it became nationwide.

I can see this programme being repeated on BBC1 or BBC2 around early December to coincide with the 50th anniversary kind of as a tribute and a sign of recognition of the show's importance to British TV from the BBC. Was kind of strange seeing a promotion for "Coronation Street" during the end credits of EastEnders - never thought I'd see that!

As for the old episodes, I'm sure I've read somewhere that every single episode of Coronation Street still exists, which is something of a rarity for a programme from the sixties/seventies, but I'm not sure where I read this. If they all exist, would be nice if ITV3 decided to pick it up from the start.

And funny to think that now the Barlows do live next door to the pub! I've just watched it, and like everyone else loved it. It's really put a smile on my face :)
