Thought this programme was fantastic. Watched Coronation Street just about all my life, visited the set in the late eighties and again in 1997 and have a fascination about how old TV programmes were made, so this was perfect. Only problem being that it was too short! It would have been great if they had a second part which looked at how the programme went from being a 13-part series to a continuous one, and how it quickly went from being shown in various regions until it became nationwide.
I can see this programme being repeated on BBC1 or BBC2 around early December to coincide with the 50th anniversary kind of as a tribute and a sign of recognition of the show's importance to British TV from the BBC. Was kind of strange seeing a promotion for "Coronation Street" during the end credits of EastEnders - never thought I'd see that!
As for the old episodes, I'm sure I've read somewhere that every single episode of Coronation Street still exists, which is something of a rarity for a programme from the sixties/seventies, but I'm not sure where I read this. If they all exist, would be nice if ITV3 decided to pick it up from the start.
