The Road to Corrie (BBC4)

I was looking forward to this from the moment it was announced and it didn't disappoint!

Brilliant cast and a wonderful script. Possibly the best thing on TV this year, by miles. :D

Jessie Wallace as Pat Phoenix was genius, she got her so right.
 
I felt like I could have sat through another six episodes, continuing with the back stories of all the characters and what happened during filming, and in their real lives. A soap about a soap.
 
I wasn't criticisng the Bernsteins: they were to serious what Lew Grade was to entertainment, and that was what made ITV in the past... ;) A good mix of serious and light... Not the dumbing down going on today (on all channels, BTW)
 
As most people here have said, this was a very enjoyable drama and Jessie Wallace was great.

I loved seeing the actual cast as the credits rolled, too.
 
Very good. Enjoyed Jessie, I didn't know she could act. Pity we have to suffer her as that screeching harridan on Enders later this week and spoil this good work. It would have been nice to have followed with the entire first episode acted by this cast.

Just finished watching and I was so impessed with all the actors, especially Jessie Wallace who had Pat Phoenix down to a tee. I'd never seen her before so I never knew she wasn't rated as an actress.
I met Pat Phoenix in Yugoslavia a good many years ago and she was no different from Elsie Tanner in real life. She was with her husband at the time. I think he was called Alan Howard

I completely missed Jane Horrocks' part. She can change her personality at will. Wonderful actress
 
I've just caught up with this on iPlayer - how quick did that 75 mins go! This was one of the best dramas I've watched all year and it really picked up once they started the castings. I thought Celia Imrie and Lynda Baron were great but Jessie Wallace as Pat Phoenix was amazing.

I'm only used to seeing Jessie as Kat in Eastenders so it was amazing to see her steal the show in a completely different role and she really highlighted the fire and acting skill as well as the sassiness that Pat Phoenix had.

Brilliant casting and a wonderful job done by all. :)
 
Well worth watching a second time; I found some subtle touches I'd missed. I loved that they took so much care with the detail in this. I think "nice" Ena - probably went on to be cast as Minnie Cauldwell, as she looked and sounded just like her.

I absolutely loved this and got goosebumps a couple of times during it. Firstly when they played the theme music for the first time, then with the two captions at the end. What a talent. Brilliant drama with the same high standard of writing as the early Corries. I hope Tony Warren likes the adaptation.
 
what was the name of the actress who was the first choice to play Ena
Also, it would be great if Minnie and Martha was in it and to see how they interacted with each other oRABcreen
 
I've just caught up with this on iplayer and have to echo the sentiments of many people on this thread. A great drama, well made and with excellent performances from all! Jessie Wallace was brilliant as Pat Phoenix and I thought the red hair really suited her! Also loved Celia Imerie and Lynda Barron. Lynda had Ena Sharples spot on, and I loved her little speech to the mirror as she studied her reflection - "This woman buried children and watched her husband begging for work!" Surprisingly touching and a perfect explanation for why Ena was the way she way - she had to be to survive!

The 'real' cast photos at the end were a lovely touch.
