Anthropologists and behaviorists say that with increasing comforts of life and prosperity, the human dignity has risen. This is easily seen if you compare life in America vs. life in Africa.
Those with poverty have to swallow their pride and struggle to survive. No talk of dignity there.
On the other hand, in west, people work for other people their entire life and due to bad habits and bad food, succumb to decades of health problems.
