The Restaurant 2009

And how! They spent too long at the salon and thinking up their restaurant name. Should have read some books.

Raymond is quite scary tonight.

Double post.

I have just seen the episode on iplayer, and was very disappointed with B&B going. Initially I was quite angry that they were closed, but thinking about it ...... it was more likely quitting.

It is not an unfamiliar tale, simply not being able to cope on Civvy Street, with the problem being more acute within the army than the other branches. It may seem odd to people looking in (I am NOT ex-forces myself!) but spending 20 years in the army changes you psychologically, and you can not change back overnight.

In the first instance sympathy is what is required not criticism.

On the other hand so are some customers!

Some think that they are Royalty and expect to be as rude as possible BECAUSE you are expected to do nothing.

And then they meet me! :D

If concept was all they were after, I could have won this!

Looking very likely that The W*nkers will be victorious. Silly. Yes, they are personable and could run a lovley little wine bar with food - as long as someone else cooks it. JJ has NO interest in being trained by Raymond, he would get a proper chef in before you can blink!

There has been so little attention to the food & cooking this series; it was ridiculous that Steve & Rebecca went out last night, after working so hard, being very consistent and actually improving. Their only failings were in pointless tasks which had little to do with the day to day running of a restaurant.

Rags to Riches are clearly being set up to come second. Although they have shown Nathan improving FOH, there was a fair bit of back peddling in the edit last night from "the best chef in the competition" to oh dear, the food is lovely but not hot enough...

I agree with the above posters who say that Raymond, Sarah & David will lose an awful lot of credibility this series.
Even more so next week when I expect they will do a massive U turn and fawn all over the cheeky little blaggers.

Which begs the question of why they come across so badly in the TV show. Have they been creatively edited to look like incompetents? Because JJ clearly understanRAB the principles of marrying food and drink and complementary flavours and their concept is exactly what you get at some modern mass-market restaurants - small, easy to eat portions of buffet-style food with drinks that complement the cuisine.

I haven't enjoyed this series, especially compared to last series which was fantastc. And it's mainly because of the poor sets of contestants this series and them not being challenged enough with hard tasks.
Steve and Rebecca were probably the only capable couple - a good chef and a good front of house service.

Don't really care who wins next week. Both couples are not strong enough and Raymond will have a tough task ahead of him when he goes into business with any of those 4 planks.

oh thanks, THANKS for that :D:D:D
whenever me & my fella want to refer to anything as pretty poor, we always use barnsley/mexican-guy's "its pathet-ec" Priceless.:D And they actually stayed in that week?!! brilliant. You're spot on though, this years couples arent any worse. I agree what someone else said, its early days so they're being put in situations designed expose all their weaknesses, personally I agree that nathan & Chris, badger & barney, blonde girls, daisy & partner could all turn out to be serious contenders.
