The Restaurant 2009

So do I! :)

ps I think as a chain yanking device your PS was entirely superfluous. ;)

pps I'm really enjoying the mad conspiracy theories and sore loser posts even more than I did the series. :D

Lots, only an enthusiastic amateur, nothing at all.

That's my reading, too. Whatever the reasons for the format being chopped, with the resulting carnage .... it's been a very neat way of removing the unfocussed, the ditherers, the dreamers and the deluded. The concept is king this series, and I think that was proved when D'Soiree completely blew it by abandoning the only half-decent concept in this year's bunch.

JJ and James seem to be operating quite nicely thank you - let's face it they have already "won" by the exposure their current business has gained - whether they leave next week or not.

disappointed that there isn't a wet scotch egg in sight, but IMHO it's a darned sight more appealing than the worthier but duller winners of series 1 and 2.

The result was disturbing as most have said...but completely unforgiveable is the line from Raymond about Chris falling at the last hurdle without qualifying why.

I for one have no idea where Chris 'fell' and feel that after all his hard work he must be gutted to read such an untrue (IMO) comment.

At the start of the programme my friend said:
Well, the final is the boys from the council estate (the one who can cook plus the arrogant hairdresser) vs the posh boys who don't seem to have done a days work in their life and can't cook anything except beetroot.
Let's see who wins.

Somehow we felt we know the result already.

No :) I spent the entire series wanting Rebecca & Steve to win. But once they went out I put myself in the judges shoes and understand why they made the decision they did. That's all. To me their decision makes perfect sense. It's not the decision I wanted but it makes sense when I think about how they judged the series.

Fair point, my daughter has just reminded me she had deep fried ice cream once in Chiquito's!

But (sorry to bang on about this!!!) to achieve the same effect with an egg I think you'd have to cook & serve it within minutes & JJ seemed to be pre-preping them.

Thanks. I'm still in two minRAB whether this indicates the programme is moving more towarRAB 'celeb/reality' where the contestants personalities and their ridiculous cavortings are more important than the cooking and the restaurant running. It annoys me that we see nothing of the menu construction/budgeting side of things but I suppose they can only put so much into an hour.

Here's what I thought of the first three contestants:

Daisy and Nadine are aiming to put Nigerian food on the map. Are they Nigerian? Nope. To that end they march into a bemused Bristolian butcher, demand goat meat, and get all uppity when the butcher tells them he

On the evidence of the programme I would agree with you. However, were it true he would not have held down his job:

There haven't been many comments on here about the personality transplant he had in the middle of last week's programme. In the first half he made no effort at all - even when he could have lapped up the tables that had been waiting too long. However, the following evening (33m45s on iPlayer) starts with him saying "Really looking forward to it actually - can't wait to get them all in and look after them - I'm feeling quite positive about everyfink".

Then, when RB turns up the voiceover says "After hearing about Nathan's attitude at the tea dance, Raymond's here to watch his performance" - but all is going well and when, next morning, RB says how wonderful it was, the others are open-mouthed, with Sarah saying "I cannot believe that's the Restaurant you walked in to".
