The Restaurant 2009

So Raymond wasn't as astute as the average viewer, who could have told him JJ would never make it in a commercial kitchen.

I doubt people will be rushing in to buy overpriced cocktails and mediocre food in a credit crunch.

Where are JJ and James going to buy the courgette flowers.

Actually I did see them on sale in Venice.

Here.

I totally agree. I wonder though if it was the faliure of the two previous series to produce an actually successful restaurant that made them go that way. Whatever - they seemed to forget they were making a TV programme.

Ok ... if the premise of the program was to find a couple that could run restaurant why did we not see one business related task ??.....no hiring of staff etc

All we saw was cooking tasks...fair enough so maybe they were looking for the best chefs ?

So on the coverage that was shown then there could only have been one winner in that final (& it wasn't the winkers!)

The winkers won according to RB due to thier 'concept'.......so WHY 8 HOURS OF COOKING RELATED TASKS. A concept was surely on their application - so just employee them from the outset & don't waste 8 hours of my life

As you will have seen from page 1, I identified one as 'opposite Pizza Express'. There are 4 in Bristol and I narrowed it down to the 'Walrus and Carpenter' (at present being refurbished) at the top of Hensman's Hill. Is that the first one you referred to?

I agree with you there. Having defended RB for his decision on business grounRAB, I must admit, it's not really what the programme should be all about.
I didn't see any previous series, so came to this fresh..so to speak. I found it all a bit puzzling, they couldn't seem to decide what was the most important..the ability to cook, having some business acumen, coming up with an interesting new concept, knowing how to attract customers, being able to make a presentation in public etc, etc. It was really more like "The Apprentice" than a programme based on cookery, restaurant skills, and creating a fine dining experience.

Excellent post Scharabo!
Thanks for the insight, whoever you are...

Can't watch Kitchen Secrets as RB has lost all credibility for me. Looking forward to the Tatboy & Gimp spinoff (sorry, can't remember the name of the programme).

:)

I think the winkers are going to win this.

And they cannot cook.

Oh dear.

Why bother to learn to damn well cook then - charm and cocktails is all you need.

There seems to be an alternate reality operating here. According to everything I've read, the Cocktail Club is in a Covent Garden basement and, in the one review I've seen, it was described as comfortable but the one cocktail the reporter tried was terrible.

May I ask, Goddess, how you know that JJ's cocktails are out of this world?
