The Restaurant 2009

Without wanting to re-open old wounRAB, the worst thing about the 3rd series (as discussed previously) was the apparently couldn't-give-a-flying-ferck way in which the Beeb nonchalantly ruined a good idea - ratings-wise and 'quality-wise'.

It was bizarre and even from a distance now, Im still scratching my head.

The Restaurant was well on course to give 'big' shows - the likes of The Apprentice - a run for their money and then, in Series 3, it just imploded.

*Scratches head*

As for Raymond: I hope they paid him enough to compensate for his decline.

I thought I'd share with you all this press release from the PR firm B.S. Blaggit and Runne (crisis management division).

Opening soon on a high street for a very limited period:

CRAZY RAY'S

Don't think the Michelin Man does perspective. He's even had a downer on the humble beetroot since RB cooked some on his TV show this week. As I said earlier, Raymond is a genius. :D

Great post Buck, but I can promise you that it is perfectly possible to land fresh fish on a Monday and sell it in a restaurant on the same day, depending where you live obviously. In fact, fish cooked on the bone can be better after a day or two , as rigor will have fully set in by then. Also, I would caution against taking any culinary advice from an egotistical french-american 'personality' chef.

I was beginning to think I'd imagined Raymond saying that!

I think this series can be best summed up by a line from Raymond himself last series: "Zis iz bollocks"...

If this was all about 'concept' as has been frequently stated by M. Blanc, what happened to the Winkers 'concept' of 'Picnic Food'.? That concept seemed to disappear as fast as the Nigerian theme! Don't rememember the concept being changed to a cocktail bar!

Looked at the Winkers Cocktail bar site and they obviously have a chef in residence because, as well as serving cocktails, they are also serving food. Some of the food is served as cold platters (quelle surprise!) but others do require a degree of culinary skills of a level beyond, I think, JJ's capacity and organisation. In addition, JJ does not come across as being a 'behind the scenes' person......he is a barman who can make flash cocktails and with a dodgy knowledge of wines!

Basically it appears to me that their Cocktail Bar is merely going to get an injection of cash courtesy of M Blanc, a few more dishes added to the menu courtesy of M Blanc, and M. Blanc gaining an imput into an already apparently successful business with the possible potential of a franchise.

Whole thing stinks of a set-up! In a potentially difficult market due to the recession, none of the other contestants seemed to be skilled enough to open a restaurant and survive for long. Blanc is merely edging into an existing business. Whole thing is a con and I hope they are all held to account for it!

ps. hope Chris manages to get some success after appearing on the programme. He worked hard, followed the brief, and delivered food!
As another poster said...what a load of BELLINIS!
