The Restaurant 2009

Finally? he isn't even a chef, they knew that from day one. His cooking will be poor, they know that. What matters is if they feel he can be trained up, that is what will decide this. If they thought he could cook he would never be in the final.

Then why doesn't he train me as I have ZERO flare for cooking as well.

That's the biggest cop out I have ever heard! - This show is not and never has been about taking an absolute non-cook and giving them free training.

You do realise that from the start, one of them is defined "The Chef or Cook" and the other one is front of house? To be awarded the title Chef, you must at least understand the basic concept of cooking and have the skills.

Why are you having such problems with this - Seems it's you that can't get the basic concept!

Why is it that you have it right and everyone else who has watch the show for so long is wrong and don't understand the concept?

Maybe it's YOU!

Hi guys bit late joining, been hectic. I saw the first of the series but missed last week. I watched tonight and honestly could not believe it was the Restaurant!. The people this year all seem hopeless, I don't get it. Last year we did have cooks and chefs, these people don't seem to know the basics, well most of them. Bit disappointed to date, hope it picks up

Car crash TV at it's best; complete ineptitude from most of the candidates and, oh, how we like to snigger when it descenRAB into complete chaos and mayhem.:D

How did this lot make it through the selection process? Whoever's in charge of that should be looking for a new job I think.:D

Isn't JJ just the most irritating floppy haired dollop?

..loved your recap again Buck..thanks for that.

Going back to last week, I work for Yo! Sushi and the cold food section (the only one the contestants were put in) typically had two people in for any service. The contestants were not even trusted with hot food, salad or sashimi sections.

Speaking to those who were involved in the filming the two girls who just left were actually by far the most competent. The married ones (Rebecca and someone?) were a complete nightmare.

On another note does anyone know of a place to watch the first two seasons?

I think we are all in for a surprise here as the broadcast hours are halved - and costs to match.

Contestants will have expected last year's 'surprise' - 9 couples but only 8 restaurants so the first programme is a cook-off. We are told that this week's programme is a cook-off but also that we get a "shock announcement". From next weeks listings:

"..the 7 remaining couples" implies that TWO get the boot this week. At the same time it looks like the programme is a 'Shollenge' to cook in a fast food restaurant, so nobody has got their own yet. So this year there may not be many more than the four restaurants I identified on page 1 - 6 is now the maximum.

So how do we lessen the saltiness of a stock? RB told army man to "think about it" and afterwarRAB, he said the solution had been staring him in the face all the time but we never got to learn what it was.

I kept yelling "Put a potato in with it" (as the potato will absorb the excess salt.)

Am I right?

Reading the press releases for the Series 3 and the spinoRAB start to make me suspicious that it's actually spinoff material that they are deliberately mining for.

As the chosen ones (Bodger and Badger rather than the Winkers IMO) capsized their own canoe through mental fragility, we are left with JJ and James go Restauranteering - car crash TV at its finest, or Rags & Riches starring the new Basil Fawlty, without the charm.

Can't wait. :D
