The Restaurant 2009

Interesting. Did you not have a contract which stated this?

I presume JJ and James get a contract with RB/SW/DM but I would have thought the BBC should have put a fairly straightforward agreement together for all couples as to what the winner would receive.

I enjoyed the Series enormously - not sure who you are but as Brucie says "You're my favourites" ? :D

One reason being the intro seemed fairly clear what we were going to get.

In Progs 1-7 it said:

Being handed keys to your own restaurant is an opportunity few people get.

Once again, legendary chef Raymond Blanc is offering nine couples that chance.

They must survive in the most competitive market of all; the High Street.

But it's a tough trade ... in tough times ... the prize -

A new restaurant business with Raymond Blanc and his partners Sarah Willingham and David Moore.

Get it right and their lives could change for ever

Get it wrong and the door is closed.

In the end only one couple can win.

The Restaurant.

----

But in the final it said (beginning only as the end of the intro was a brief description of the evictees week by week).

Many people want to own and run a restaurant. Few get the chance to turn it into a reality.

Once again, legendary chef Raymond Blanc challenged nine couples to try.

The prize - a restaurant venture with him, backed by businesswoman Sarah Willingham and perfectionist restaurateur David Moore.

-----

Probably entirely innocent explanation.

Right. I have wasted 8 hours of my life watching this pile of turd. I hoped until Week 3 that the excellence of the previous two series would soon emerge.

I am totally and utterly ashamed of the hours I've wasted (except for the posters here, you've been brilliant. Witty and fab)

BBC...YOU STINK

I hope the Winkers shrink without trace and drown in a vat of Bloody Mary.

Definitely. The whole thing seems much more closely edited and set up. I always enjoyed the bits in previous series when RB handed the over-confident ones a reality check on a plate.

I'll be very disappointed if the Winkers win - if it's just about the concept why not just have the three judges doing a Dragon's Den on their business plans?

I've just been looking at today's paper. We have the Sunday Times, and the TV pages are in the Culture magazine. Under each day's tele programmes they post readers letters relating to previous weeks. Normally they are quite entertaining, as they print a reader's awful review, followed by a very appreciative review.

In today's issue, the first since the letters following the final of The Restaurant could have been printed, there are several days devoted to the subject. Without exception these viewers opinions are negative in the extreme. I take it this means they didn't have any good reviews!!!

On a rather wet and windy day I stayed in and had another look at the archive, this time at the Inspectors' comments which are about the Shallange as well as the departing couple. Here are the tasks in which each couple left (no particular order):

Helen and Stephen - produce a cookbook

LinRABie and Tim - the business lesson

Harriet and Mike - the Oxford college dinner

Caroline and Chris - cooking on a 747

Laura and Peter - the high class dinner party

Richard and Scott - Motorway service station food

Pure nostalgia:)

I had forgotten that T+G were up for closure in every one except the Motorway one. (The cookbook one includes the famous scaloops).

You can see them by clicking on the couple and then on The Inspectors...watch at:
