The Restaurant 2009

Ok folks, here it is in a nutshell:

JJ CAN'T COOK - We knew that from day 1, they knew that before day 1, they accept that JJ CAN'T COOK.

Good, glad we've got that out of the way. So what does that leave us with?

Winkers
-------
- Great front of house. Never questioned, the most professional, the best.
- Great team work. They work very well together, they support each other.
- They never give up. Even if they have to blag their way out of a situation, they never give up.
- JJ never gave up, even when going up against insane odRAB in terms of cooking, he never gave up.
- Yes, JJ can't cook, but they knew that. What matters is, CAN HE BE TRAINED. They don't care that he can't cook, it's if he can be trained.
- Never lost sight of their concept.

R&R
---
- Great chef in the kitchen but he seems to make silly mistakes
- Front of house is terrible, always has been. Customers p**sed off, insulted, cocky front of house, attitude problem.. the list goes on.
- Not great team work, always seem to be arguing. Chris doesn't even seem to like Nathan that much.
- They've not improved that much

Winners: The Winkers. Why? Because they represent the most potential, both in terms of improving and in terms of concept. They are the safest bet, and Raymond will train JJ personally.

Sorry Chris, but Nathan blew it, and you sat back and let him.

Hi Sharw

In answer to your question, yes, the keys were on top of a barrel and we did go to the barrel and picked up a random set of keys, exactly how it was shown on tv.

However, we were told to stand in specific places for the shoot. My only reasonable explanation for how the restaurants were located to the couples was that they keys to the restaurants were placed in a position most likely to be picked up from the place where we were standing i.e closest to each couple.

All the contestants discussed how the restaurants happened to work out in exactly the right location for the "concepts" so you are not alone in thinking it was set up.
That said, there was still a huge element of luck/risk? in how they worked out, but I can assure you we were given no insight into the locations or keys.

I think you should try anyway. That is part of the fun. I even sat wondering how I'd keep the area cool with a fan while I messed with the chocolate. It was an amazing creation.

So, so true.... Methinks Mr Blanc is either as mad as a Hatter, or has a plan so cunning, only his laser-like brain can cut through the Winkers' BS to see their true potential.

Another excellent post, Buck. Thank you.

Enjoyed that episode much more than last week's and I see some genuine promise in a couple of the partnerships :)

I wish JJ and his sidekick had been sent packing though. They are far too self-assured and judging by the brief clip of next weeke's show, they are still as cocky as ever.

Felt sorry for the guy who was part of the couple that got sent home tonight :( He was very good front of house and his little speech almost got a round of applause from our household too!

Oh and Badger (part of the army team) is a dish! ;)
