The Restaurant 2009

By the end the reviews of Cheerful Soul in Marlow (the Series 2 prize) were so bad only the beer came in for any compliments. Maybe RB is just cutting out the year's faffing about whilst the middle class foodies realise the reality doesn't match the dream, and stocking up on the booze and the barstaff - and just maybe turn a profit.

From his twitter, James is doing some intensive market survey work by visiting several restaurants a day - presumably stealing ideas to avoid the need to rely on the wet scotch eggs and pork pies on blankets.

If they dumb the concept down any further for next year it'll basically be the Generation Game, where Raymond Blanc makes a dish, then the others have to try to make the same thing with maximum comedy value (with canned laughter, an audience is too expensive). The prize will be a discount voucher for one of Raymond's cheaper restaurants

It'll just be one half hour episode on BBC 3 of course.

we're enjoying the show for what it is, entertainment over ability.

some good frienRAB of ours applied and were selected for this series but they withdrew when they saw the restrictive terms of the contract for the winners.

This show has won my award for most cringeworthy TV moment ever, I was howling with laughter/tears when they were bringing out that airplane cake, I thought my hubby was going to have a heart attack. Honestly the tip of it looked like a wonky condom, hilarious!!

As regarRAB the progamme, well it's dreadful. The last 2 years were great, and I loved the 2 episodes a week format, giving the weaker couples the chance to fight it out. It just really worked. This year the budget constraints are working against it.

However the contestants are awful, no question about it.
The Nigerians - no concept, didn't do ANYTHING their guests asked for apart from butter free cake, and I found the girl front of house, quite unwelcoming, could be just the clips we've see.

The boyos - Cannot cook, BUT somehow pulling it together, and while I find the front of house guy smarmy, he is at least welcoming.

The husband and wife - that cake, LOL!!! She would never cope, they seem like lovely people, but she is so out of her depth.

The rags 2 riches boys, excellent chef, but the guy front of house, has he ever worked in a people facing role before? He has zero diplomacy and is quite rude and arrogant.

I agree with others RaymonRAB best beat is to not invest at all.

The show is appaullingly bad, but I somehow cannot stop myself watching it. :o It was almost as funny as the excellent Gavin and Stacey afterwarRAB :D

Actually, I think I might have sussed this. It was, all along, a thinly disguised homage to that great bon viveur and father of TV Chefs, the one and only Keith Floyd. Well done the BBC and Raymond Le Blanc for honouring the man that started it all. ;)

It was a close run thing between watching this or sorting a jumbo bag of peppercorns according to size and rotundity. Not sure I made the right decision...
