The Restaurant 2009

That made me smile too. Restaurant did get a plug on Steve Wright, as was mentioned earlier, I loved Raymond's comments on shouty chefs, especially his "I am an autocrat, but a democratic autocrat" in an outrageously French way.:)

No chain is going to let them do this at a busy time, so they would have chosen a quiet mid-week day. Two of the sites are in a shopping complex which would not be busy after the early evening. The shops normally close at 8p.m. although there is a cinema in the complex.

The Pizza Express is a mile away in the new 'Harbourside' development. It is surrounded by boarded-up shopfronts waiting first tenants and is so quiet that Marks and Spencer closed its 'Simply Food' store there. Even if there was a queue because they hadn't cleared early customers there must have been some sort of promotion to get people in. With the place full of TV cameras no passer-by wanting a quiet meal is going to go in.

According to the Daily Wail:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-hit-secret-rankings-talent-league-table.html

The BBC drew up a secret league table of their 'talent' and Crazy Ray was placed in the 'Average' division. Needless to say he didn't like it.

Another presenter who did not like being called 'average' was chef Raymond Blanc, host of BBC2 reality show The Restaurant.
He said he 'hated the idea of being midrange because I always strive for excellence'.

I fear poor Ray will soon be relegated to the 'No Credibility' league.

At last an answer to the question many have been asking about what has happened to Ze Shallange in this year's scaled-down series. Next week is the opening of the restaurants but the week after it looks as if the first half of the programme is Ze Shallange. From radiotimes.com:

Thursday 19 November

The Seasonal Ingredient

The five remaining couples get a lesson in seasonality. Before their restaurants open for evening service Raymond sets them a challenge. They must use only fresh, local and seasonal produce to make dishes to sell at a local farmers market. As well as showcasing the best produce their dishes must promote their restaurant concepts.

From today's blog:-

Hello

I did not do a runner. I stand firm on the decision that I (we) have taken. To me, it is simple: Nathan has matured fast - from a rude, careless host, he has learned to show some sympathy for his guests (and for his chef/partner!) and it was nice to see that emerging maturity, sense of responsibility; at times he even looked sincere.

On the other hand, Chris

The Winkers should have gone tonight. They are hopeless, they can neither cook or handle front of house well. I have no idea what Raymond expects from them.

The plump couple - I like him but she is irritating. A magician!!! If I go for a meal the only magic I want is on the plate. If my meal is late I don't want some bloke juggling balls infront of me

I love Bodger and Badger. They are my favs at the moment.

The girls who were sent home derserved another chance. I understand their concept as it stanRAB is not workable but with a bit tweaking it could be fine. I would be very interested in a restaurent that sourced as much as it could locally. It's a good idea.

What an absolute joke!

Chris was the best chef but Nathan was a complete lowlife. I guess thats why they didnt win.

RB's integrity has just gone out of the window. I am surprised about David going along with it though. I think (considering his obvious dislike of Nathan) it was the lesser of 2 evils.

I wont bother watching the next series.
