The Restaurant 2009

JJ and James the winners?? What a joke!

I felt for the other 2 laRAB. They performed better in the final task, were more likeable with potential. Yet Raymond decides to open a restaurant with a couple of idiots!

Worse.winners.ever!!!

The thread that will not die!

Crazy Ray - We shall not forget what you have done, you sneaky little French cook you.

Maman Blanc must be horrified that her jolie petit gar

Why does everything have to be dumbed down?

Come Dine With Me was great in the early days, with people who really wanted to cook good food.

Now it's reduced to wannabies.

I would prefer a CDWM, every six months rather than a weekly rubbish programme.

I used to love RTV, now it's so contrived as to be staged.

hmm the programme editors and the client apparently forgot that sorbet was also on the menu and cocked up.

JJ and James saying the programme was not about finding a cook, it was about finding restrauntuers was very telling and smacked of being a set up.

Real shame for Chris, he performed absolutely flawlessly, getting his dishes out despite the delays not of his making and was highly praised for them. Nathan, bit of a twonk for most of the series, seemed to step up to the mark. Yes a few issues with table laying but really, not everyone has that depth of attention span for minor details - especially when you've only been taught how to lay a formal dinner table once.

It was inevitable the winkers would win. Thats great news for Raymond & Co but a real shame for the viewing public - and ultimately the bbc/Raymond should they decide to make another series - it won't be taken seriously.

Thanks for the post Bowlingsilence. My problem is that the Winkers failed at almost every task and blagged and cheated throughout the series. I agree that none of the contestants showed that brilliance or originality sufficient to open a restaurant with. But i do think it is wrong that he chose to open a business with a couple who were already running a Cocktail Bar serving food! They already have The Cocktail Club and now want to open the Picnic Club. Blanc is buying into an existing business not supporting a new venture!

IMO he should have stood up and said that he felt unable to open a restaurant with any couple. If he takes the time to sit and watch all of the programmes of the series as viewers did, then he might just understand why so many viewers are angry. The Winkers were shown to fail at almost every step and proved to have an almost complete inability to cook! The other couples all comprised of a front-of-house and a chef!

IMO he must have realised that there were real problems half way through the series, especially given the recession and the financial aspect of opening a new business at this time but, by making the decision he made, in the eyes of many viewers he lost credibility and integrity. Pity he didn't have the courage to stand up and say 'non'!

Just read his response. I'm still not convinced. They may in some respects have better business minRAB, but for someone who claims its all about the food it just makes a farce of the competion. I particularly loved this line from his blog

"The weakness of JJ (cannot cook) will be swept away by his obvious talent: cocktail-making."

Sorry, did the BBC mis-tittle the show. was it actually 'The Cocktail Bar'? absolute joke!!

Argh, Freeview signal went down, thank God central Scotland hasn't switched over yet. Now watching 4:3 slightysnowy-vision.

More chewy meat for Sarah. She must be getting used to it by now ;)

Ah Rags to Riches are impressing though.

Crazy Ray might make a good teacher but I wouldn't want to be his bitch, sorry sous chef.

That poor guy on Ray's new advertorial programme (how does Crazy Ray persuade the BBC to keep funding his promotional campaign?) looks as if he is being ritually humiliated by the prissy chef.

Perhaps he scoffed at the inept new recruit in the kitchen who mistook the potato ricer for a cocktail shaker?

I freely admit I am not up on blogs. So can someone please explain something to me. On RBs blog, there is now the one sent from Brazil on 31st December. But in the blog archive there is no mention of the "Winners & Losers" blog about The Restaurant dated 18th December (you know, the one which says he will tell us more fascinating facets about JJ & James - but never has).

I still have the link in my internet history which takes me to it, but where is it on RBs site? Has it been deleted, or am I just missing something?

He only said "I would like to", not "I will"........ maybe he's still desperately trying to think of some.

It's like when you say "I'd like to say this meal is delicious......except I can't"

:D
