The Restaurant 2009

It was clear tonight that JJ and James thought the food part of a restaurant came very low down on the list of necessities when it came to running a good restaurant.

This will be my last series, I'm only watching the final because I've devoted enough of my time watching the other episodes.
The fact that there is a couple of c*nts (and I make no bones for using the word) who can't EVEN COOK A MEAL in the final two is beyond a joke.

I definitely preferred the old format over two nights and didn't realise format had changed until tonight. can anyone enlighten as to reason for change and what exactly new concept is?

Absolutely agree ... the whole thing with JJ supposedly 'thinking on his feet' and producing a cocktail at the end was just daft ... sure he thought about it and did what he's done all series ... make cocktails .... BECAUSE ... that's all he can do ....

Totally agree ... I posted something along these lines a few weeks ago. I don't think JJ has the passion to be a chef. He won't last five minutes in the kitchen. He loves being behind a bar, he loves coming up with concepts for dishes, he loves being flambouyant and mixing and matching food and drink ... does he love cooking ... no! I reckon he'll open a restaurant and within a few weeks will have hired a proper chef and be back behind the bar. When they actually said tonight 'we just want to be restauranteurs' it was very telling .... he doesn't want to be a chef, he wants to run a restaurant.

The other thing though is I can't quite understand why JJ and James are even doing this. They seem to have a successful business already doing what they like doing, why are they trying to do something they can't actually do?

I know, ridiculous ... how about the 'well hung' meat too, and the dodgy bellini's .... it's all a farce. Meanwhile Chris cooks perfectly.

Also what was going on with that awful cheesy last scene?Where were Sarah and David, the supposed other partners in this new business? Hiding their faces in shame probably

OK my heart went with Chris and Nathan in the final but if I was investing in a new restaurant at the moment my money would go on JJ and James.

We're in an economic recession, being a good chef isn't enough: concept is king.

The idea of a kind of British Tapas with drinks that complement is a good and commercial one.

They wouldn't have come near winning in previous years but times have changed and become a lot harder.

JJ won't be cooking in their new restaurant but I suspect that he might come up with really interesting ideas.

As good as Chris is I don't at the moment see a restaurant run by him and Nathan lasting that long.

It was rather a rubbish crop of candidates this year. I'm sure in previous years there have been more real contenders and fewer joke pairings. Perhaps the producers focussed too much on picking personalities who would make good tv, who knows.

Anyone watch tonights Raymond? amazing how he took such simple ingredients at the end and made such a wonderful looking dish. Just goes to show what he is trying to extract from people on "The Restaurant", you CAN make amazing dishes with simple ingredients.
