Well, as a history buff the film isn't at all accurate but I saw the film over the weekend and I thought that it was entertaining.

It is like a soap meets master piece theater. Natalie Portman really rocked it.

I saw the film last week. I really enjoyed it but was a bit shocked when [sp] Anne and Mary's brother got executed (I'd forgotten all of my history lessons plus I hadn't read the book)[/sp]

I still haven't seen this film yet! Should I bump it up on my netflix queue?

I just watched this yesterday with my mom. We both actually really liked it. I didn't even know that it was loosely based on true historical people until later when I went online and saw some people complaining about how historically incorrect a lot of it was. I started researching the characters myself, and found it very interesting. Still, I enjoyed the movie anyways.

And to those who've read the book, don't go in expecting all of the same events to be in the movie. I read the plot of the book on Wikipedia and there are some things in there that aren't in the movie. I just thought I'd point that out.

Thought I'd bring the poster by...I'm in love with Natalie's green gown...:sigh:

I really want to see this movie it looks really good. I need to get the book.

i read the book for the first time last year and couldnt put it down - def my favourite greogry book! it comes out in the Uk on 7th march and i cant wait - such a great cast!

I saw this movie the day it came out. I finished the book like a month before and was beyond excited to go see how they made the book into a movie. Unfortunately I was beyond disappointed. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, but you'd think when the trailers say it is based on a book it might actually follow, or resemble the book, which it doesn't.
They cut out and rearranged the story so much it isn't even remotely close to the book. Anne and Mary don't even have the same personalities, and it skimmed over and changed so much.
So I guess my advise to anyone listening is to not read the book before you go see the movie, and if you've read the book then wait till it comes out on video.

Great post, sm_love_dc.

Question: Did George and Anne really commit "treason" like they were charged or did they stop just in time like in the movie?

Btw - I agree... Jim and Nat should do a romantic movie together. ;)

ETA:

For those interested, here are some clips from the movie.

I was looking at it earlier, but I've not had chance to get it yet.

I'm looking forward to the movie though. I'm excited to see Scarlett, Natalie an Eric all working together. :D

I majored in Tudor England and Stewart England. The film had hits and misses. So little is known about Mary that I thought that Phillipa's book was great. It brought a old story to a new light. However I felt that the movie had some big misses. Mary had 2 children with Henry it is assumed, and widely accepted. I felt that the story line with Henry turning into a dark shadow of his former self was great. The characters seemed to want to be more passionate with eachother, anger and love, and it was a bit of a miss. Mary and Staford, Anne and Harry Percy was very much about love. Not enough time was shown that both of the sisters did find the love that they were looking for, with consequences. Anne was shipped back to her home and Mary was banished from her family for marrying Staford. Anne was shown kissing her baby once in the film, but she was a good mother. For her time. She did not leave the country as it has been assumed that Henry offered her and Elizabeth. She believed that Elizabeth was the true heir of the throne and accepted the death penalty.

Eric Bana did a great job with Henry. He was a man that was told what to do around the time of meeting the Boleyn girls and then turned into a type of dictator by the time Anne is killed off.

Natalie was great when she starts to see herself falling from the graces of the King. She did not sleep during the last 2 years of her marriage. She was always in a state of high energy. She was falling apart, and she knew that she was the one that started the sprial that she was stuck in.

There is such a romantic notion about this time period, which in truth was not a great time. Well unless you where a man. Women were considered to be property, to be bought and sold. That is all that marriage was to men. They were seen as children that had to be guided. It was also very dirty. There are many stories of lice and other gross things. Some people never even had a bath in their entire life because they belived that water is where illness came from. It is one way, but man it would have smelled gross.
