The Omen question

Does Father Brennan's birthmark appear in the newer version of the film. because I don't remember that in the Gregory Peck version, just Damien?
All I can think of is the devil claims Father Brennan as his own.
Servants of Satan are marked - allegedly.

The book of Revelations states that the number of the beast is 666. The perfect number in Judaism is 777 which is the number of Jesus. Satan is imperfect so has a number of lesser value.

In any case, they're going to have to remake the film(s) again because they most likely got it wrong!

Until very recently our versions of Revelations came from Greek transcripts that were translations of the original hebrew. The oldest documents available were in too poor a condition to be used. The later Greek documents, dating from a time when Greece was dominated by Rome, gave the number of the beast as 666. Theologians believe that this was an attempt by Greeks to slur the name of Roman leaders, namely Nero. Nero written in Aramaic, was valued at 666, using the Hebrew numerology of gematria. Using 666 as the number of the devil was a manner of speaking against the emperor without the Roman authorities knowing.

In 2005 the oldest Greek documents, dating from before Roman authority extended across Greece, were finally deciphered. They give the number of the beast as 616.

As with all things translated multiple times, it's open to interpretation.

All the "devil's disciples" have the number of the beast marked on them. The other characters would have too (Mrs Baylock etc etc) but they obviously refrained from showing them all as it would have detracted too much from the film. They were pretty spot on with this, because the book of revelations states that when the Anti-Christ returns and reigns on earth everyone will have to be marked by the number - or face nasty consequences.

Very true. I watched it at the weekend and had forgotten just how good it was.

I wish I could say the same about the sequel Damien: Omen II. IMO not as good. I am about to watch the third installment - I hope it's better than the second.

What you are hoping for is sadly not the case. Damien Omen II pisses all over The Final Conflict - it really is a case of each one being worse than the previous. By the time Omen IV came out, they were really scraping the bottom of the barrel. At least Omen II had the guy drowning under the ice and the doctor being chopped in half by the cable in the lift. No such fun in the third one...

Yes I have to agree, Omen II is a decent film, the ice scene is fantastic, and I love the scene where Damien is reeling off historical dates. But Omen III is a real let down. The scene where Damien is addressing his followers is embarrassingly naff.

That's a pity. Omen I was such a fantastic film with a great story - very logical. Omen II was just a concession of mysterious deaths that no one seemed to question along the way. Good as they were (the under-the-ice one was very realistic) Ah well. I have the box-set trilogy - so will watch them all.:)

Loved these scenes too Revolver. If the third one is naff I dread to think what the TV film and the re-make are like. Like yourself I have the 30th anniversary set - so will plough through them nevertheless.:)

The third one is watchable Jim, it's not dreadful, it's just a very weak conclusion to the original trilogy. Whatever you do tho, avoid Omen IV and the remake.
Let us know your opinion on the third one Jim!

Never seen the remake but was under the impression from critical reviews it was a decent, well made movie.

Omen II is decent effort and the Final Conflict is watchable,if overly ambitious. After a really promising first 10 minutes, the movie goes downhill but has a underrated performance from Sam Neill as Damien.
Omen IV is TV movie fodder, you're not missing out on anything.
