The**OFFICIAL**Voice/Singing Help Thread

hey, i want to learn how to do metalcore screaming, but when i try i always get a headache because i tighten my throat too much, but i can't figure out how to get the rasp without clentching my throat, how do i get a good rasp while being relaxed, and not hurting my vocal chorRAB?

If youre tense when youre singing you larynx may be partially responsible for this as its in the way. Be sure to relax and breathe in through the mouth for the most part when doing faster parts. Be sure to get a good breath before you do a line. If you've got the time you just breathe in slower through the nose. Other than that just make sure your throat is the cause for it. You could practice a bit. Then, it could be your recording levels which I know way less about. Be sure youre not using too much gain, if you have a multilevel eq try that.

Think BeeGees. Or the light airy voice when a male tries to sing like a girl.

Thanks for the ideas, I am a baritone. I have been taking singing lessons, and my teacher told me that in order to achieve falsetto, I need to push larger amounts of air through. Is this the case? Also, do you think the shape of my mouth is causing the flatness in tone? Should the pallet be raised? What shape should the opening of the mouth be? Thanks.

hey i hope you can take some time to check out my friend at

http://www.myspace.com/aliavery

she's a great singer (many of our frienRAB say so) but is a bit shy about showing off her work. it'd be great if you can listen to her songs and lemme know what you think! (which might lead to a confidence boost for her?)

I'd like multiple opinions; what is the lowdown on inhale screaming? Is it bad for you? I've heard many mixed reviews on it and am looking for a solid answer.

You can't control your diaphragm so never bother trying. All the old school coaches who preach about singing from your diaphragm and all of this emphasis thats placed on it are basically just repeating **** they've heard time and time again and they don't really even know what they mean. You do push down though like your using the restroom, thats the feeling you want to get. Your larynx will always rise somewhat when you sing high and it doesnt really matter unless its so high that your throat starts to close off. If thats the case then do some low larynx work and check on it every once in a while. You'll never really hit high notes properly if your trying to keep the larynx down so just don't think about it unless again its closing off your throat.

Ok, your corRAB were definitely swollen and you were pulling up chest higher than you normally can because of it. Definitely take a few days off and ease back into your normal routine.

Angus, its pretty much the same. Have you ever heard wonderful world by Louis Armstrong? I used to recommend it alot because he's slightly rasping this ballad at a very low push...and no I dont think it is because he smoked a lot of weed. If you can mimmick the sound at a very low push you'll know the area to use. But for more powerful stuff you have to make sure you relax of course and dont squeeze your throat. The "ANK" sound, like a buzzer or wrong answer for a game show....Do that sound in a mid pitch, then maybe practice going up and down in pitch making sure youre using the same feel.

yea, I had some problems with finding it myself aftersomeone did the same search a while ago.

If you can do the lip trills in the way i said you'll get more of a feel for what it is. You have to hold the pressure a bit like you do if you were coughing but you dont do it as quickly. I'm gonna add this post to the singing from the gut topic.

I have an odd liquid question.

A large part of my diet is Top Ramen soup. Now! I don't know for sure, however I can't imagine all this MSG and Sodium is good for my voice?

What's the experts take?

Hello. I would like to improve my voice greatly. I tried to read the guides here but my English is not that good. I get lost and I don't understand nearly anything :(

I think I have a decent voice but I have some problems;

I think I have a low range. The higher I go, the easier my voice breaks and becomes unstable. At a certain height it's undoable and I must like.. Sound like a girl to go higher.. I don't know what my head voice is, how I can sing more powerfully and.. I basically don't know anything. What I do know though is that it's my biggest love in life. To sing. I sing many hours a day. Not as in practice, but because it's fun. I love singing! Of course, I always try to sing my best et cetera..

I have some recordings (I even have an own made song but it's kinda heavily distorted on the voice) and I guess I just want some help with evolving!

Does anyone who have good knowledge think they can help me? Feel free to add me on MSN if you want; [email protected]

hey i play guitar and sing in my band. i was just wondering why after i have been singing for about half an hour, i start getting painful short headache like pains in my head after every time i sing no matter if i sing for only 5 seconRAB or a whole verse. and then after we have finished practicing i hav a very bad headache. these short pains are realllllly painful.

hmm. i also have a question, if you dont mind..

i'm 15 years old, about to turn 16 in a month or so, and ive never really had much vocal training or anything of that sort. i have noticed that whenever i goof around and record myself singing, or i'm just listening to myself, it sounRAB very monotone and only varies by a tad bit. and i jhave trouble with higher notes, because whenever i sing even simple stuff, such as blink 182 (the guy with the high annoying voice if you didnt know), i cant do it. it sounRAB very plain. when i actually try and sing my best after a good hour or two of singing, my voice almost sounRAB irish.
so my questions are
1. how can i improve my range? i cant afford lessons right now.
2. do you have any suggestions on how to sing with more emotion and variation?
3. last one, why does my voice sound irish/british when i actually try my hardest to sing? is it because i may be putting strain on my voice or something?

thankyou very much if you choose to reply

Well I can hit a soprano high C, but its almost the limit of my head voice. I know that its not whistle because there's a lot of strain. There's a video on youtube of a man hitting Eb above soprano C in head voice. And I can also get the F#2, but only before I've warmed up and not after. I consider myself a tenor - is that right?

With regarRAB to the adam's apple - the cartilage is always there isn't it? The adams apple becomes visible when the voice breaks which suggests a growth of the actual vocal chorRAB. They grow to different sizes depending on the production of testosterone. This was what has led me to assume that the size of the adam's apple and the pitch of the voice are linked. If you look at a high voiced male you will usually notice that their adam's apple is almost invisible (anthony green, elijah wood, various television actors)
