The Official Tool Thread

No, I'm totally with you there. I just get so sick of how far up Maynard's ass everyone tenRAB to be. My shoulders sit snugly underneath's Jones' rear.

Agreed VF, I didn't really appreciate Wings Pt 1/2 until I saw it live. I didn't start listening to them until about two years ago, so I wasn't around for the Lateralus tour. I'd give my left testicle to see Disposition/Reflection/Triad played live.

I agree, I too was wondering why both banRAB had been lumped into the one thread. They are both completely different acts striving for different things. Maynard has always said that A Perfect Circle has been separate from Tool, and is an outlet for different music/ expression etc.

There are plenty of banRAB whose focus is clearly on the bass virtuoso for at least a majority of their songs:

Red Hot Chili Peppers (obviously you are aware of them but I think their early output is relevant), Minutemen, Yummy, and Infectious Grooves all seem like worthy answers...

Agreed. I took a listen on the day it came out. I seriously don't see what the fuss is all about. Where've you been, Shawn?

And Antonio, I have albums and I can share them with you. Will you show me how? I have Opiate, Undertow, AEnima, Lateralus, and 10,000 Days. Take your pick. Also, what did you think of Lateralus after a full listen?

Hooked you up with some samps from each album you haven't heard:

Opiate (1992):

Undertow (1993):

AENIMA (1996):

10,000 Days (2006):

I'm not surprised. Though, I can't say I mind...their artwork has been some of the best. I mean...who can beat 3d glasses with 10000 Days? Only artwork that I has come close as far as how much thought was put into it is Of Montreal with Skeletal Lamping or Kaki King's Dreaming of Revenge.

Parabol/Parabola are my favourites off it, too. And one of my favourite lyrics ever is the line "we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion."

As for Undertow/Aenima and Maynard's voice, I don't have time to comment in depth right now but listen to the vocals in Pu**** at about 8.27-8.35 minutes. It gives me shivers every time.

Yeah, it seems as though these two topics are quite popular in this thread. I'm pretty annoyed with the character that is Maynard. Very, very overrated. His side projects are not something I'm impressed by, either. Also, I used to be that fan that worshiped them and until recently. I've received the message, I feel, of how liberating it feels to think on your own, to be proven wrong, yet still be in sync with those around you. It's undeniable that Tool has been a helping hand in this realization. As overrated as they may be, most of the time, they aren't recognized for the raw brilliance they've shed into the world - socially and musically.
