The Official Smashing Pumpkins/Billy Corgan Thread

how about you buy it if you think you'll like the god damn music.

I happen to expect great things from the new CD. I probably won't buy it until I hear some other tracks, but Corgan has an ear for music. He's always been a bag of ****s though, im not really sure why this shocks anyone, or why at this juncture in his career we should stop buying his recorRAB because of it.

^That used to be my list. I was even geeky enough to have a shirt that said "The world is a Vampire" however it caused half the people in my school to freak out in like fear or something, one girl even called my shirt "satanic." (which I thought was a bit extreme).

My list has definitely altered a bit from that as I got older (not to mention I rarely listen to them now), but thats not a bad one.

I actually invested in that box cd set that came out right after Mellon Collie... it was interesting, but right then and there i knew they were changing their sound, and didn't like it. I agree with franscar.

I once heard Billy Corgan refered to as the John Fogerty of our generation; a control freak who knows what he's doing.

I'm inclined to agree.

And I heard whatever the hell the new single is called on the radio. They certainly came along way from songs like "disarm" but I honestly thought the new track was amazing.

Anyone check out Billy's poetry? I saw a video on youtube when he was sick and had some audience merabers help him out.

A friend has his poetry book or whatever it is and really likes it.

I think Bullet With Butterfly Wings was the first rock song I ever liked. Before that it was all movie soundtracks and... worse.

I look forward to their anniversary tour, G.L.O.W. was decent but not great. Ive never really been able to get into the Smashing Pumpkins but I think Billy is a great guitarist and has good voice. My fav album would have to be Siamese Dream, their crowning glory in my opinion. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness for the most part just seemed kinda dull. Didnt Soma have like 60 different guitar parts on it? Insane

Gish was the first album they put out, durabass.

but anyways...

fave albums: ALL OF THEM BECAUSE I HAVE THEM ALL! INCLUDING THE BOX SET.

Worst albums: NONE. BECAUSE I HAVE AND LOVE THEM ALL. :):)

He's playing at the 9:30 club in D.C. (usa) on the 24th? I think? I was going to try to go, but I don't think I want to be driving into D.C all by myself...little white chicks don't do very well there so I've heard. Hah.

I absolutely LOVED Zeitgeist... TheFutureErabrace was something I liked a fair bit to start with, but in the end it was more like I tolerated more so than loved it to bits...

Yeah Adore gets way too much hate. It's really the last above average SP record.

Does this have something to do with them being their most popular songs? Those are great songs and highlights from the album, they just suffer from radio overplay. Which contrary to popular opinion, does NOT make good songs bad.

Greta song, I am in total and complete agreement!

So, I am wondering what people are thinking about this whole "No More Albums" kick Billy is on.... all the press I have read on the Pumpkins and any new possible material seems to centre around the notion that Billy thinks the art of writing for albums is dead in the modern Ipod era, and that he thinks it is pointless making a traditional type album...

Do you think he is serious about the whole EPs and singles only thing? Or is the megalomaniac, artistic, grandiose, purposeful side going to take him over and lead him to write some sort of magnum opus concept piece...

I think he could be in denial, kinda like the Zwan thing...

It will be. No one is going to buy the same album three times to get two bonus tracks that they could easily get off of the internet for free. HUGE financial mistake for sure.
