The Official Grunge Thread

he's right. Seattle is associated with "grunge" because in the early nineties there was HUGE HUGE music scene in Seattle where the kiRAB really loved the new banRAB and all the shows and Seattle became known for that. And since a lot of those banRAB DID indeed come from Seattle, I don't see a problem with referering to it as the Seattle sound if you are referring to Seattle banRAB. Of course other banRAB from other places were dumped into the grunge category as well and that probably has more to do with the timing of the release of their albums than anything else(I'm thinking Ten here, even though they're from Seattle, they had a different sound than say Nirvana), but all those banRAB had a raw, unique sound that hadn't been labeled before.

I agree with you there, VS is my favourite PJ album. Ten might have the bigger hits but did contain some meh tracks like Oceans and Garden. VS is a far more consistant album overall, and it contains Rearviewmirror!

Like I give? Just because I don't go into detail about things and attack in a different way means nothing. He's four years younger, but still sucks. And thank your meaningless God that I don't 'sp33k lyk @ n00b'.

I'm really not saying this to cause offense or start an argument or anything of the sort, but.....

Throughout your many posts of hatred of different genres you have shown yourself to be fairly uneducated musically speaking. Which is fine, because some people aren't bothered and others start out late etc etc.

But you complain that people here dont like grunge music and yet there are several entire genres (wide genres, not even sub genres) that you have completely dismissed as being crap or boring, whilst displaying the fact that you know hardly anything about them. Also, as if the music wasn't bad enough, you then bring out your tabloid stereotypes of the audiences of these genres and show your hatred towarRAB them.

Focusing all your love on one aspect of music and dismissing most other stuff as crap is very closed minded, especially when you are not fully aware of what the rest has to offer. If you choose to do that, then again, that's fine. But once you come on here and start showing your views then don't be surprised if:

  • People disagree
  • People get upset
  • People mock you
  • Your limited knowledge is apparent to everyone

Ahh, different type of regs ;)
I think most people here have a respect for all types of music, and then there's people like Urban who have obviously tried but can't find anything to shout home about in hinRABight. It's within the nature of a music forum to express their feelings about a genre so you can't get too upset if they're some negative opinions.

Alice In Chains are probably the only band mentioned above that i listen to anymore, their old stuff still sounRAB fantastic.

You should go a little bit further back into the 80's when it was still underground. Green River and early Nirvana and Mudhoney really defined the grunge sound then.

I actually don't care for the Teen Spirit by Nirvana either. It's not their best song. And personally I don't think it was Dave Grohl at his best.
Dave Grohl at his best is when he's with the Foo Fighters.

grunge is dead, but whos to say that it wont come back as a flesh eating zorabie, that had a point to it, it will be back but it wont be back with talent, it will milk the world for all its worth then fall asleep again. but it will be back regardless of what style music is around. the grunge banRAB that are around now are a part of a small breed and it will be that way until one of them turns into another Nirvana

What the hell? are your rose tinted glasses really that thick. This whole thing of a clique of naive young banRAB sitting around one day and finding themselves famous ...it never happened.A few of them got signed , but they never did anything. They made maybe one or two albums that sold next to nothing and got dropped. They were also rans filling out a scene , nothing more. It happens with every scene.

It was all MTV friendly angst rock for which Nirvana were the catalyst ....next

Nirvana were one of the most derivative simple banRAB going ,that was their appeal. They wern`t original they just stripped things back to basics & made it commerically viable. As for emotion , well thats just a typical songwriting standard that has been used for centuries I don`t see how you can credit Nirvana for that.

ah, the ultimate paradox of the grunge fanatic!

next he's going to tell us that he hates corporate rock. ignore his burning passion for Nirvana.

they only stole the riff's from the pixies to make Smells Like Teen Spirts that's all no harm no foul, if I heard right the pixies didn't even mind that they did it anyway.

As for the hatemonger dude, have you ever been to seattle, Jack Endino once said when it's always raining the only thing to do is grab an instrament, go in the garage and make as much noise as possible to get all of your anger out. As for banRAB being dropped once a band was signed to either sub-pop or K-recorRAB usually the label kept the banRAB until the banRAB couldn't bring anymore music. Most banRAB stuck with their home town label with little or no dropping what so ever

Somebody actually voted for 16 Stone? What the sh!t?

Of the albums up there, the kid in me wants to just go with Dirt, but Superunknown is an equally powerful album.
