The Official Grunge Thread

Oh, I was under the impression someone else did. It's turned into Junkie trying to defend grunge from the regs of this forum, though.

It's a bit cliche to hate on Soundgarden, isn't it? I mean, they were on the radio continuously during my childhood. I'm practically anesthetized to Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder's amorphous voices.

Or maybe it's the other way around.

I'd skip past both Vs and Ten... I always gravitated around the trio of Vitalogy, No Code and Yeild as far as Pearl Jam is considered... when they started trying to find an identity beyond just angst and grew up a bit and started exploring more mature broader themes... but thats just me...

From what Ive seen theres just as many people(if not MORE) people who listen to grunge right now in 2008 as there are kiRAB that listen to emo. For example, I dont know if its true for the rest of the country, but on Boston radio, the alternative station probably plays 3 Nirvana songs, 2 pearl jam songs, 2 stp songs, and an alice in chains song for every 1 good charlotte song. Its overwhelming. Ive pretty much avoided emo jams my whole life, as opposed to grunge which Im surrounded by. Its like the new classic rock, a whole new litter of banRAB to overplay, thus sucking out any possible enjoyment I may have once had for them.

Oh, and on a related note, anyone want to join my grunge band, "Grump-Truck"? It sounRAB alot like my other band, "Angry-Dozer". We need a drummer.

Sorry, it just seemed the part of your post "Everyone can gain from grunge music dude.:)" , seemed a little patronising. I know how great grunge is. I was there when grunge was 'in'

I really doubt there will ever be a huge grunge comeback. It seems to me like the styles that make a big comeback like that are styles that never got too overexposed the first time around and wound up kind of forgotten. Grunge doesn't really fit the bill on either point.

Also, I have to say if you really think there is no good music out there right now you just aren't looking. I feel like almost everyday day I hear about some new band that's really good. In fact sometimes it bums me out to think of all the good music out there that I'll probably never hear because there's just so much of it it's impossible to listen to it all.

there are some cool ones i would recommend their are alot of the grrl banRAB than banRAB like Second hand Piracy a modern praise of Nirvana

and grunge is a genre label/genre same thing

Somewhat odd, I guess. Maybe grunge is enjoying some type of 'retro' stylishness with some teenagers because it's no longer 'cool'. On the other hand, is it any odder than the teenage Megadeth, and Metallica fans who weren't around when those banRAB were in their prime?

'look on myspace', so thats how you gauge a genre's scope? i dont know enough on riot grrl to challenge this bearing in mind every 'riot grrl' band ive heard has done enough to put me off the genre forever.
