The Official Green Day Thread

and who said KISSes was?

Gene Simmons admits he stole the main riff in "duece' by playing Stones 'Bitch' backwarRAB.
KISS aint about being thought provoking music. Gene says its a soundtrack to the live show.

ya, following this weeks flavour of ther month???
it's not fashionable to be 'punk' anymore??

they're a modern rock band now??

in your opinion

greenday have had their hayday. in my opinion they hit their stride at the absolute minimum of 5 years ago. never the biggest fan of their music. unlike basically everybody else, as everyone had these albums, i did not purchase nimrod, nor dookie. and the new videoclip is fairly humorous. how old are they now? still leaping around like the miscreants of yesteryear.

Oh I don`t know about that. They did call Fall Out Boy the worst band in history.

I`d say that was a pretty accurate description.

Yeah, but its still the 'new punk'. Im not sayin I agree with it, but it is.. I dont think that they're a 'very inspirational band' though. How anyone can be inspired by green day is beyond me.

grreeeaattt way to support your argument. I'm going to word this question in a way that makes it impossible to brush off without looking like an idiot.

ASIDE from the light shows, any aspect of their shows period for that matter. ASIDE from how many recorRAB they've sold, or what they look like, or how many people like them, or how many people have bought their merchandise. disregard absolutely EVERYTHING except their actual music, and tell me WHY KISS is a good band, based on NOTHING else but their music.

Warning was really good, it had a real stripped down sound which made it alot less forceful than earlier stuff, which made some of the more stubborn fans hate it.

^Like marmite... I wonder how many people like marmite anyways...

Sorry off topic. But I dont think thats true, there are people that just kinda think "Meh theyre ok I guess" when it comes to Green Day. I dont hate them, but I dont like them either.

They were never punk in the first place.
All their albums suck equally, and all of their albums are just as 'un-punk' as American Idiot.

I understand. I don't think it's very often that the lyrics are extremely deep.
The songs themselves mean something sometimes, but the lyrics aren't very new and different.

I've heard Billie Joe himself say that his band isn't a voice for punk, nor does he want it to be. However, they are a form of punk. They might not sound anything like the Exploited, etc, but look at the Ramones. They were pretty damn poppy and were a mainstream band also. Green Day is more like that form. I know that being mainstream automaticly means you aren't punk, but it's more about the minRABet then the music. They guys in the band know what punk is and they admit that their music isn't as punk as most banRAB but they still have the punk attitude. It's not like they were put together by a record lable to appeal to 12 year old girls or pretend to be punk like GC or Simple Plan. Green Day IS punk, get over it.

Oh yeah, for those of you that don't know this, Billie Joe is Tim Armstrong's cousin. Before Lars joined Rancid, Billie was the second guitarist. Tim wanted to see if a second guitarist would work so Tim asked Billie to do it. He almost became part of Rancid.

"A guy walked up to me the other day and asked me, "What's punk?" So I kick over a garbage can and say, "That's punk!" So he kicks over a garbage can and asks, "That's punk?" And I say, "NO, that's trendy!" - Billie Joe Armstrong
I love that quote.

Thank you Crowquill! Twice now that I am in your debt. :)

Edit: Forgot a question.
Is Billy Joe ***? Serious question because I heard many rumors and some of the song suggest this (King for a Day, American Idiot).
