The Official FUNimation "DragonBox Z" News/Speculation/Discussion Thread (Spoilers?)

The English track will likely be the one with the original music. Extras are not yet confirmed. FUNimation just got the license.

The forums over on Daizenshuu EX have totally gone bananas over this release, and with good reason. We're finally getting a true release of Dragon Ball Z after all these years and I can't be any happier. I'm just hoping that now this will be the definitive release of Dragon Ball Z and that we won't have to put up with any more crap. We're long overdue for a release like this.

Yeah, and may I remind of daizex.com's recent feature article on the history of DragonBall Home Video Releases in North America (link can be found in my signiture). It's certainly a good read for those who haven't been following DragonBall as long as some of us have (going on 12 years for me).

This great news and all, but I can't say this is the true definitive release of "Dragonball Z". I mean I can't help but feel that the main reason FUNimation is doing this is because they saw how upset their fans were with this release, not simply to make more money off the franchise, which isn't a bad thing. But what I'm trying to say here is, why should there be a big season set marred by crappy "remastering", than another one that fixes it but is specificaly targetted to hardcore fans of Japanese fans.

I guess what I'm saying here is the true definitive release would be one that pleases everyone, 'cause let's face it, whether you like the "reversioned" dub or the Japanese track, care about whether it's in its original aspect ratio or not, we're all fans of the same great anime. I think ideal release would use the remastered DragonBox footage, with all the fixins, but it would also have an English that more closely reflects its Japanese counterpart, something FUNimation still hasn't done, along with English dubs of the original theme songs and the image songs that for some reason were missing from the English dub that used the Japanese BGM. I think it's still possible, I mean it would be costly to go back and do it AGAIN but then again they intend to do Kai at some point so it may not be a problem anyway.

Oh, and in case anyone hasn't heard the latest Daizex podcast they will have a FUNi rep on the show at some point later this year.

I'm also hoping that Vic Mignogna will sing Cha La Head Cha La for this release. It would be a nice treat to the fans who like the dub.

Considering the amount of time and resources FUNimation went through to even complete the dub, it's highly unlikely that they'll even bother redoing the dub from scratch. Sorry folks. This is as good of a dub as we're gonna get.

I'll wait to see what Right Stuf has it for, since once they have a FUNimation sale, it will no doubt be cheaper than this. Again, does anyone want to buy any of the Orange Bri-- ahem, "Remastered Season Sets"?

Lower? Before it's released? I wouldn't count on it. $56 is a really good deal, and unless you want to wait a year after it's been released I wouldn't really expect the price to fall down to a trendy $20 like the [terrible] season sets.

it might end up being around 49.99 by the release date. Most of the season sets sold around 29.99 which was 40% off of the SRP. I'm just making an educated guess.

Dang, I wonder why. Maybe they're pulling a season sets and adding an extra disc to maintain quality on their discs?

Dragon Ball Season One DragonBox?

I hope we get some explanations and/or corrections soon. Maybe we'll get Dragon Ball Season 1 Dragonbox Nov 10 2009 and Dragon Ball Z Season 1 Dragonbox Dec 15 2009. Yeah, this really doesn't make sense...
