The Official Best Guitarist Thread

yay for jazz, i know this is off topic but i was watching conan and this guy was playing and i can't remeraber his name but he played a song called "black coffee" i think and he was really good. it was all fingerpicking

playing two different solos at once has timing issues. i.e., different time signature, tempo, etc. it would take many years to pull that off.

he's not the best ever, but he definitely has talent.

You need one of these.

jimmy page also gets an honorable mention. absolutely brilliant guitarist, solo in dazed and confused (I think it was that song) where he played with a violin bow was unbelievable. If there is anyone who could be disputed as hendrix's equal, page would be it.

Alexi Laiho of Children Of Bodom
Michael Amott of Arch Enemy
Scott Ian of Anthrax and S.O.D. (Stormtroopers Of Death)
Zakk Wylde or Black Label Society
Willie Adler of Larab Of God
Robert Flynn of Machine Head
Even though I ****ing despise the man, Kirk Hammett has alot of talent. And James Hetfield to stay with Metallica.
Dimebag (Pantera/ Damageplan) obviously which damn near everyone has pointed out.
Dave Mustaine (Megadeth and early days Metallica)
Some might argue him as metal, but Randy Rhodes
Kerry King (Slayer)

Does anyone remeraber years back when somebody said that art wasn't about how technical and detailed the artwork was, and now people are coming up with sh*t like this to put in art galleries...

Now put it into context, I can imagine the next Jimi Hendrix getting on stage, playing a powerchord and walking off to millions of fans going crazy.

Then again I might just be crazy.

Best Metal Guitarist...

He may not be the best, but I love Dave Mustaine. He plays (really well), sings, and has a wicked attitude.

That's gotta count for something.

Even if he does, it still doesn't mean Led Zeppelin are the only band in the world to have ever existed. They may be your favourite but for christ sake it's been a long 63 Led Zeppelin posts.

^ I don't think hendrix is overrated at all, but then everyone has different tastes. Personally, one of my favorite guitarists is hendrix, just because the guy is all about style, emotion, innovation, and he's got undeniable talent. In addition to hendrix, page is arguably the best guitarist to have walked the earth. Unbelievable technical ability, plus alot of style, and amazing versatility. Both these guys created some of the best guitar music ever written, not to mention inspiring countless others who followed. Teppie Tereshini, great technical ability, but what I really love about his style is that its flowing, seamless. If you listen to some thrice songs, there's never any one section that sticks out or sounRAB out of place, but then that's mainly attributed to great composition. Some other banRAB try to add solos or riRAB in just for the sake of having a really great solo, but no matter how great it is, if it doesn't flow naturally from the rest of the song, it just enRAB up sounding bad. Thrice composes great music, and tereshini just takes it to the next level.

^I was just kiddin bout that.
I just usually skip over the solos on songs.
Especially if theyre long and drawn out and epic and such.
I like my music fast and uniterupted
