The Most Overrated Movies ever

The Matrix, definitely. Great special effects but nothing else.

Citizen Kane. I've studied it and from a critical and analytical perspective, it is a great movie to look at, but for entertainment purposes it loses it's charm.

American Pie films. The first one was ok as teen movie, but they were all overrated.

You may ask, and I'll join you!

How can it offend? Of course unless you're BNP/Neo-Nazi/KKK...

With the Matrix getting slated, I reckon that people would think it's a great film if it wasn't for the 2nd and 3rd film. The first one did some great stuff, it's definitely right up there as a film to watch.

:)

This'll make me popular!
LOTR Trilogy
Star Wars - All of em
James Bond - Ditto
Matrix - Ditto
Pulp Fiction/Kill Bill/Reservoir Dogs
Gladiator
Memento (didn't understand it)

Give me something original with believable characters anyday, I'm bored with sequels!

Most of mine have been mentioned, but at least I'm not the only one that hates them!

Lost in Translation - One of the most boring films ever!
American Beauty - ditto
The English Patient
Jurrasic Park
LOTR

I agree, but would note that Harry Potter is so big, that any Harry Potter film, is going to be vastly over-hyoed, no matter how good or bad it actually is.

Another fil I thought was complete rubbish, was Calendar Girls. Over hyped and extremely boring.

So true!! :D

I soooo love that film, it's totally the best film I've ever seen (and I actually DID see it at the cinema!!!). I notice it was recently voted the greatest movie of all time by the readers of Empire magazine.....

Anyway, to go back on topic: I think Titanic is quite over-rated. It's way too long, and suffers from wooden acting all round. Would have been a better film if they'd cut the rubbish about the missing jewel's.

Also, Forest Gump, which I find to be an insult to anyone with a mild learning disability. That film won best picture up against both Pulp Fiction and Shawshank!! WTF?

Finally, The Matrix - a good film, but, IMHO, not a great one. To me it's just another SF movie, to others it seems to verge on being a religion!!!

I wholeheartedly agree with that!

Nah, I've gotta disagree with you there. Up until September last year I avoided the HP films and books like the plague, dismissing them simply as kiRAB stuff (the hype sort of enshrined that impression really), but eventually after hearing a lot of good things about the films, I watched them, and surprisingly, found myself enjoying them so much that I've moved onto the books (and subsequently discovered just how much of the story didn't even make it into the films).

In terms of overrated films however, American Beauty and Royal Tenenbaums top my list. They were simply too dull to keep my interest going, and American Beauty in particular seemed to have the most pointless ending I've seen in ages.

Carry on Films.

Lots of people will tell you they love 'em but when was the last time you met someone that had sat down and watched one all the way through? They are racist, misoginistic and apallingly homophobic. I would, however, be willing to forgive all that if they were actually funny but the truth is that they're not - not even a bit.

three films i started watching but baled out after fifteen minutes were; Usual Suspects, Sixth Sense and Blazing Saddles. The first two just don't grab your attention enough. As for Blazing Saddles - it is sub Dick and Dom puerile playground humour - a much funnier western is My Name Is Nobody - Terence Hill and Henry Fonda Italian Western. Not Directed by Sergio Leone but it sure looks like it was. He was involved though. The sardonic humour of the dollars trilogy is more my style and The Good The Bad and the Ugly has to be the most enjoyable film of all time - they all looked like they enjoyed making it too!

You bailed on Blazing Saddles??? You missed the best parts!!

As for 'My Name is Nobody'... agreed it's a good film, Sergio Leone idea adapted and directed by other people... however, you might like to try 'They Call Me Trinity' and 'They Still Call Me Trinity'. Terence Hill again, with Bud Spencer, directed by Enzo Barboni. More laughs, better stories, and you'd hardly notice they're Italian dubbed into English. Also the reason why almost every Terrence Hill release in the US had Trinity in the title somwhere.
