I have watched some very nasty films in the past of which I wont even name, there's one film that the has done a vanishing trick and I can see why, I didnt watch this film on a video NO, I saw it on a terrestrial channel a few years ago, I think it might have been channel four. Anyway I know this film disgusted people because the had walked out of the cinema half way through. but I have forget the fims name. I never want to watch this film again but want to read the films reviews.
Any the Film was about a family and two men that enter the house and kill the family child first and then on to the farther and on to a sadistic lake killing scene. This film left me in much disgust yet with a nasty realization of the evils of cinema and maybe the darker side of life. move over faces of ***** and Eraser. Films that touch loss and bereavement shouldn't go there. Dont go looking for this film if you havnt seen it please. oh and carnt even find on the internet. I think its been buried and rightfully so

the hole was on channel 4 yesterday, stayed up to watch it, ended up with a migraine and I can't stop thinking about it. the film was a bit...distrubing, and the way those people died, she drowned the poor guy (I thought he was guilty), and the lies she (thora birch's character) told!

I am getting that migraine again. :(

Foreign films by their nature are more disturbing because you are an alien in their world. Hell, they don't even speak the same language as you, therefore you're always one step behind. If the setting is unfamiliar as well - Japanese architecture, flora and fauna - this makes the viewing experience even more unsettling.

Just my two cents.

I found irreversible quite disturbing the fire extinguisher beating in the skull and the 9 minute silent rape scene! truly shocking.....and it's French.

Really? There's not that much violence or horror outright though -- it's mostly implied, and the effects (if you want to call them that) are pretty tame by today's standarRAB.

Has anyone seen a film called "the pit and the pendulum"..? this is another film that i found to be a wee bit off. Just didnt like the content and any film at all with the latin language in it makes me need a poo....hahahaa...

great thread folks...keep the suggestions flowing....

Hitchcock made his name out of disturbing scenes, Psycho, 39 steps, Vertigo

People go to cinemas to be entertained, if that includes being shocked (and the promotion clearly shows its horror of some kind), then so be it.

Id hate to have to don comfy cushions whenever I thought of going out of the house.

For disturbing scenes in a film you could do a lot worse than looking through films from some of the Oriental directors - Tetsuo springs to mind, as does Battle Royale, though I would not wish to suffer remote PC censorship before having a chance to see them.

Others , Hellraiser, Eraserhead, and for less gore but equally disturbing; Repulsion, the Hammer Horror vampire releases and the present multiple offerings of adult anime.

Oh and Edna...your right about faces of death, it is a total show stopper, i would NOT recommend to anyone to watch this video, like i said i looked at it out of curiosity and switched the thing off. Not what a horror is all about at all.... but if you have a stomach of steel and no boundaries then carry on...

Fair enough.. indeed, if you start to think throughout the film, it would get scary. =D

As for my answer.. I find it tame now, after wtaching it 10 or 15 times, but Misery on first viewing (or on first read of the book) is spine-chilling.

Some disturbing movies (though I personally don't find them disturbing):

Cannibal Holocaust - Due mostly to the animal mutilation scenes, with real animals used, especially the long scene with the torture/death of the turtle, or the scene with the death of the dog. Not to mention the deliberately unsympathetic characters and their actions towarRAB both the primitive tribes & eachother.

Cannibal Ferox - Pretty much just a Cannibal Holocaust ripoff, with some disturbing scenes.

The Man With the X-Ray Eyes - horrible

The Fly 2 - that scene with the poor dog

The Wizard of Oz - sickly colourful nighmarish movie

Hannibal - Ray Liotta's head - yuk

AI - emotional trauma

The Ring - major creepsters
