the most disturbing film ever

One that stanRAB out in my mind was Suspiria. This film freaked me out with the sinister music and dark evil atmosphere. I haven't seen it for years and mabye if I seen it now I'd change my mind. Another one that I remember was renamed to The Witch as it was a re-release, but can't remember the original name. That was pretty sinister too. Here's a good link for anone who wants to jog there memory about a particular horror/suspense film, old and new.

I was about 8 when i saw it, im not scared of clowns but that film really did spook me for a while! The bit where the photobook flies across the room and blood comes pouring out of the pages...ewww.

I don't think I've ever watched what I would describe as a disturbing film. I've read through this thread a few times and have seen some of the movies mentioned. I can remember watching 'From Beyond' for the first time and being disgusted by some of the imagery in a manner that made me want to watch more - does that make sense? It didn't disturb me as such, I just thought the concept of this third eye appearing out of the middle of the forehead and looking around, quite sick in a comical sort of way - classic 'Yuzna' I guess. I'm still trying to get hold of a full and uncut version of 'Society' for similar reasons.

I've seen 'My Little Eye' and although the concept is quite clever, I watch this kind of movie and think "It's only a film" - one can imagine the fun that directors and actors have with this sort of thing. All zombie movies, even the most graphic from the golden age of video in the early 80s, make me smile more than they frighten.

A couple of well advertised shockers released in recent times were 'Last House on the Left' and 'Ichi the Killer'. I wasted my hard-earned on the former - I've never seen such a pile of shite in all my life. Awful film and only disturbing for the fact that I was suckered into buying it. As for 'Ichi the Killer', I still haven't got around to buying it. Is it worth it? Has anyone seen this movie and if so, will I be wasting more money on something over-hyped?

Perhaps if pushed and I had to plump for something that came close to disturbing it would be 'The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover'. Odd choice you may think but it's a Greenaway classic and Nyman's music, together with the faultless performances of Mirren and Gambon, create such a hopeless atmosphere - as in, there is no hope, no joy and no breathing space. It is tense from start to finish yet classical in style and direction. Fantastic stuff.

And I suppose, for now, this is where I draw the line. I totally respect Smoo's honesty in her post, but the real thing is not for me. I have been sickened of late simply reading the news reports of the slayings taking place and I would have no wish to watch them on the net or any compilation on DVD. I can't explain it - the thought simply horrifies me. For the families of those killed too, the thought that it is there on the web for all to watch, I find too upsetting to put into worRAB.

Great thread.

'Harry, He's Here To Help' is pretty disturbing too, as are 'Necromantic' and 'Necromantic 2'. A film called 'Scran' (I think it is) is also probably relevant to this thread.

My favourite film of all time, 'Welcome To The Dollhouse' is also disturbing in a subtle way. I'm really looking forward to the sequel, 'Palindrones', which, by all accounts, is even darker than WTTD.

Irreversible - i think you will find that watching this film will astound you.It is the most shocking thing i have ever seen.

8mm - A+ for content

Elephant - At the point or realisation of this film is fenominal and further more when you know that it happend your stomoch surely must turn?

ttfn xx xx xx

Out of curiosity, I had a quick look at the Faces of Death entry on imdb. Now that really does look like a video nasty. And to think, it was so popular that there were as many sequels as Police Academy movies!!! However, not sure that it should be banned. I'd NEVER want to watch something like that, only because I know it would give me sleepless nights. I support porno being legal, so I guess i'd be hypocritical if I were to want those types of film banned. But at least no one gets hurt in a legit porno.

I too, wasted good money on Last House on the Left - I had always wanted to see it after watching Mark Kermode go on and on about it on FilmFour.
What a load of utter crap! One of the worst films I have ever seen (maybe even the worst. And what's with the excting, creepy-looking house on the cover? That doesn't even feature in the film!

Thanks for respecting what I said, Megson1965 - I do try to explain what I mean as best I can but can't always get the worRAB out.
I'm not quite sure what I am - martyr maybe? - but I'm one of those people that will torture myself with these awful things and I don't know why.

Another example of this is that I will watch Animal Cops and such like on Animal Planet, whilst I sit there crying and fuming with anger.
I don't know why I watch it, I really don't, because it breaks my heart. The same goes with the execution videos, etc.
Sometimes, seeing these things make me more active in trying to help certain causes.
I've always been a huge animal lover, and have done my best to help where I can. When I sit and watch what goes on daily in the world - the cruelty, torture, starvation, etc - towarRAB children, people and animals, it makes me want to do my bit.
This isn't always much - I have health problems and am just a regular gal, but I will take time out and write letters and give money to the smaller (maybe more worthy) charities.

Woah - I can go on, can't I?! Sorry about that everyone! :o :)

well me only being a teen, i having seen many disturbing scenes but house of 1000 corpses disturbed me when they open up that doorway thing and see loaRAB of women tied up and naked and slashed with the music playing was very powerfull and disturbing

I got deeply moved when watching platoon in the scene where the soldiers gang raped a girl and wiped out a small village. The scene itself was bad enough but the thought that these atrocities went on is even more distasteful.
