The Metal Education Thread

As I said to Urban, this is Metal as it stanRAB now. We obviously disagree in Sabbath's standing as Heavy Metal or Doom/Stoner Rock. If, in time more evidence comes up to suggest something different to me than I shall edit my paper. But Alexisonfire has a valid point, you're not saying anything that includes sound. Simply quoting websites (albiet respected ones) won't win you points with me. However I am impressed by your eloquence. I hope this disagreement won't keep you from stating your obviously informed opinions.

and Muzak, I'm quite honored you like my Doom definition so much. :)

I personally think it's wrong to modify a banRAB genre to fit the times.

It's playing around with history. A band may fit the term 'rock' more so then 'metal' these days, but don't take anything away from what it was at the time.

Pretend in 20years time todays emo became known as pure pop. And your kiRAB are running around getting into all this "early" pop which was once emo. You wouldn't have a bar of it would you? You'd stand upright and argue that it is some of the original early emo. And then you'd proceed to ram Britney down their throats telling them that thats true early pop.

Point being, if when the music first came out it was one genre, it doesn't mean it changes over time into another genre. At least say it was the earliest form of such and such genre, giving it some honesty to what it once was.

I think the overall synopsis is well done. I've been a metalhead for close to 30years now and would like you to categorize the following banRAB that I haven't seen mentioned. I just buzzed through this thread so forgive me if I overlooked a couple.
Anthrax / Savatage / Dio / Clawhammer / Meshuggah (?) / Voivod
Just curious where you see these fitting in.

Lates.

As far as I know, Iron Maiden never did anything like punk. However, I think you might have heard someone comparing Maiden's 3 vocalists. The original vocalist (Paul Di' Anno) was a good singer. I think he might have been influenced by punk himself, but he always had a bit of a punk rock edge to his voice. Maiden didn't really want that; they knew that they'd have to get a better singer if they would be touring with Judas Priest; so they acquired Bruce ****inson.

But the punk rock thing is probably referring to Di' Anno.

I was refering to Di' Anno with Iron Maiden, when they played the clubs. Bruce was in Samson at the time. What kind of Metal would Samson be?

Hehe, I noticed that motley_crue131 is reading this thread, and I noticed what was said about hair metal earlier in this thread, and I just wanted to tell you guys that he is going to flip that guys said Motley Crue isn't metal, and he will undoubtably make himself look like an idiot.

Never heard Damaged. And since you compared them to Fear Factory, I don't want to hear them.

Cryptopsy is still Death Metal. very technical Death Metal. Once Was Not wasn't as good as say, Whisper Supremecy or None So Vile.

Meshuggah...hmmm, melodic death metal, although they are all over the place sometimes. Progressive Metal could also easily house them

Dimmu Borgir are Industrial/Gothic. I'm not a huge fan. Check of Shade Empire, much better.

and dude, I understand what you're saying about sub genres and such, but you're taking the specific case and applying it the general case. Not everyone overclassifies. Most people think it's stupid, just like you.

You conveniently failed to mention my other sources--All Music Guide, the Grammy AwarRAB, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Rolling Stone Magazine.

NONE of which are public sources where people can register and edit articles.

So your attempt to "poison the well" fails. You've still provided no credible sources to support your unsubstantiated opinion.

Sorry, but you drew first blood by taking exception to something I said, that wasn't even addressed to you.

So the burden of proof lies on you.

I've provided expert testimony from several of the most highly regarded music sites on the web, while you've given us nothing but an unsupported opinion.

And what Green Day thinks they are or aren't, has absolutely nothing to do with Black Sabbath. You're comparing apples and oranges, so your reasoning is flawed.

Wow RAR....that summary is brilliant...some of the Nu-Metal I don't agree with personally, but all in all I tihnk you did a terrific job.....I'd give ya a kiss on the cheek if you weren't so far away *blushes*

It's not metal. It's a disgrace.

and Perfection, I included As I Lay Dying not out of personal prefrence (I'm not a huge fan), but rather because I think they better typify the "metalcore" sound. Unearth is much more technical and well, metal, than AILD.

good band though.

But it has influenced countless metal banRAB, hence it's inclusion. I'll consider moving entorabed. I'm actually honored that that's all you had to say! or was it.....

Hmmm nothing about the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal then.

unusual considering if it wasn`t for that metal probably would have been killed off by punk.

Well, I was trying to make it more "simple" for a person like you to understand.:nono: Don't try to call yourself intelligent, because you obviously didn't know from the start, duh!!!I'm starting to question if you have learned anything yet...
...Aah, who cares? There are many "retarded person" hospitals to "take care" of someone as retarded as you...
...Have a nice day in your pathetic life, kiddo!!!

They are very influential. I'll consider adding them. Granted I'll have to make sure i specify old Celtic Frost. Their middle era stuff was the suck.
