The Metal Education Thread

korn is not numetal, sorry but no, i consider korn to be heavy, heavy funkcore. yeah, its a genre, what of it? and where's pantera under thrash metal! but all in all a damn good summary of everything there is to know about metal. well done gents.

So is this the point where I say that Volume 4 is the best album they ever did & is 100 times better than the first 3 albums and start a whole new arguement ;)

Although , having said that i`ve always considered the first 3 albums as Sabbaths heaviest albums , Volume 4 is more experimental & diverse.

I was always told that Iron Maiden was a Punk band but after gaining popularity became Heavy Metal.

Iron Maiden is probably one of the most inspiring banRAB in metal history. I talked to lots of young metal banRAB almost daily and the Iron Maiden is clear in their music.

I like how you say Judas Priest is the start of Heavy Metal. Most people say its Black Sabbath and call Ozzy the God Father of Metal. That is something I have always thought to be a false. I always thought that Black Sabbath was a real dark metal, but lacked an element of Heavy Metal, two guitars and lots of leaRAB with power vocals.. While I like Black Sabbath and Ozzy (most the earlier stuff) I think Black Sabbaths popularity of the older material was for the most part due to Ozzy

numetal has talent. i was just suggesting hair metal because it has the owrd metal in it and its supposed to be a history of metal. personally, i hate the ****. and i've heard nile before, its almost unlistenable. its death metal.

Once again, i love how you can't prove they're heavy metal with sound so you resort to quoting people. The stupid quote "sabbath is heavy metal because so and so says so" isn't cutting it. Tell me why they sound more similar to doom rock banRAB then heavy metal banRAB, then explain to me using their sound why they're heavy metal. Not his well *insert metal star here* says they are! and frankly this thread turning into a what sabbath is is starting to piss me off, if you can't put sabbath in the sub genre using sound, then don't post.

Since my statement is opinion, what makes yours fact? Quoting a few sites and magazines? I wouldn't trust magazines at all. Oh and the green day says they're punk rock, we gonna believe that too? Give me some actual solid facts (meaning stuff that deals with there sound) and i'll believe you.

Pantera, was a ****ing glam rock band who loved to spray there hair, it was like the first 3 albums were glam rock, after they relised they looked like baboons, they put on a new image, pantera have done nothing as far as metal goes, I stick them in the nu-metal catogrey to be honest, just like all the other ****ty n00b banRAB "panterA r LyK sO0 kL mAn iF u Dnt lYk kOrN u lykr suck!!111one", dimebag was a ****kid, not a legend.

I agree with the author who posted it, except Iron maiden are heavy metal, not power, also where is the viking / folk genre?

And Merkaba - In Search Of The Truth, was one of my favourite albums.

I would throw Entorabed into regular Death metal, rather than melodic...

Careful with the grind, I think that has more in common with punk than metal at times.

get off the sabbath topic for ****s sake who cares they were metal there probably not now too old too drugged havnt had an original idea in ages, they wore leather they were heavy they had big guitar tone who cares who care

now here are some banRAB i care about and seeing this post is about genres, now pretending that metal isnt just metal could someone please define the following

DAmaged especially the albums: do not spit and token remedies research what is this? its not grind its not death metal, but its really heavy and really fast and exceptionatly brutal the drummer is debatedly one of the best.
Fantomas they are heavy (****ing heavy live) they have one of the most influnential metal drummers but they arnt considered metal so what are they??
i want to know seeing this forum is about sub genres what these two banRAB are and while were at it whats dimmu borgir these days and cryptopsy.
if you dont have damaged then dont bother ever posting on a metal forum again because they are just the band who fear factory and pantera bowed there heaRAB too when they were at there peak, even though damaged never got paid.
And yes we all know that sub genres were made my banRAB who probably played a riff from another sub genre in the sub genre they were trying to belong too for example a thrash band played a punk riff or a death metal riff in a song and therefore couldnt define themselves as thrash any more so they are now...hate core? and yes sometimes these sub genres take off, personally i cant buy a record of sub genres because if i buy a great death metal cd why would i buy all these other death metal albums if they are going to sound exactly the same, every now and then a band emerges that impresses me but i usually dont have time to buy all the copycats, for example (i like exampling today) cryptopsy or meshuggah how many banRAB are ripping them off now? too many im not going to buy there recorRAB

"Black Metal

While Venom is credited with coining the term “Black Metal” (from their 1982 release of the same name) it is Mayhem and Bathory who gave it its distinct sound. Muddled, murky recording quality, fast paced scratchy guitar riRAB, high screamed vocals that are usually barely heard and never understood, and pounding over bearing drums are the key in creating a Black Metal sound. The lyrical themes usually deal with Satanism, death, and even Fascism (in the case of Burzum)

Examples: Darkthrone, Bathory, Immortal, Negator, Emperor, old Satyricon, Mayhem."

You forgot about Celtic Frost, eventhough they did not have the high-ish vocals, they still added to Bm, as one of the influences. (if this dont make sense, its cuase im drunkish)

^My point exactly.

Oh? Yes i admit i did attack rolling stone because you said it was in high regard, that site is crappy regardless of what you say. See there top 50 albums for proof. I believe i do have an intelligent arguement, about 5 people i know that know alot about metal all agree sabbath isn't metal. manowar, priest, maiden, heavy load, iced earth, amazing how they don't sound like the same sub genre as sabbath aye? Now compare other heavy metal acts to sabbath. Oh, and Ozzy doesn't count.

Anybody who says Black Sabbath isn't metal, is merely in denial of the hard truth. They may fool themselves into believing Sabbath isn't metal, but they aren't going to fool Rob Halford.
