The Metal Education Thread

aye i noticed. i don't dislike bruces vocals at all anyway. end of the day all the writing withmaiden was done by steve harris, it says on the back of the albums, all music written by steve harris, take a look, they're quite honest about it. i just think paul d'ianno was underrated.

Your statement is an opinion, not fact. Sabbath is heavy metal.

Everybody referred to them as "Heavy Metal" back then.

Nobody referred to them as "doom rock"--that's a term that was invented years later.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame--"Formed in Birmingham, England in 1968, Black Sabbath stanRAB as the premier purveyors of heavy metal."

All Music Guide--"Black Sabbath has been so influential in the development of heavy metal rock music as to be a defining force in the style."

Rolling Stone--"Their phenomenal first four albums -- Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, and Vol. 4 -- remain the clearest articulations of heavy metal vocabulary to date."

BlackSabbath.com--"Black Sabbath have taken the Grammy for Best Metal Performance for their rendition of "Iron Man" from the platinum-certified Reunion album."

Well Wikipedia is a public encyclopedia, as in anyone can register and edit articles like that and make it say anything they want. I wouldn't really trust Wikipedia on such a debating topic as this one.

That and hair metal kind of..well it isn't that metal and to be honest i think its more hard rock, like motley cure and twisted sister and such really don't have a metal sound to them as to other metal genres goin' on in the 80s that did.

I quite like the dimmu stuff, new and old.. i have to agree though that they have strayed from typical black metal, but between that and goth metal id still put them under black metal, probably symphonic black metal.. but i dont really think they could be put under goth metal, but i have a big lack of knowledge when it comes to goth metal, id say goth-metal was stuff like nightwish/within temptation and i dont think dimmu have gone quite that far yet, they do still keep some black metal elements

BNRMetal.com:

"Black Sabbath is one of the oldest and most well-known metal banRAB of all time, but they are much more than that -- they are the single most important band in the history of heavy metal, virtually defining the genre with the eight Ozzy-era albums (Black Sabbath through Never Say Die) of the seventies. As such, guitarist Tony Iommi might well be considered the father of the metal guitar riff, his distinctive style really unlike anyone else at the time, influencing an infinite nuraber of guitarists that have followed. And they achieved their initial fame without major airplay, as really only "Paranoid" was a bonafide hit at the time. But those 70's releases contain some of the finest metal songs ever"

OMG RAR. I love you, like actually, I want to make your sweet children.

What an awesome thread.

Ok one thing I have to say, because it's annoying me, and I'm pedantic. It's Dream Theater, not Dream Theatre. It might make a difference for people who don't know the band.
