The Mentalist (Merged)

To quote....

In the first season finale, when the body of Emma Plaskett is found on the only state land within 100 miles CBI is called in to investigate. As Jane notices the victim

I was expecting Red John to have a very masculine, threatening voice. Instead we get this weedy little drip LOL. :D

It wasn't one of the best episodes, but it was still entertaining. To reveal Red John in full now would have ruined the suspense, and killing Jane now would end the series! ;) I think they've got the balance right (of keeping Red John an ongoing story, but one that isn't over-used).

Nothing official but Sky re-starting their imports in March and things like Flashforward returning then is more circumstantial evidence suggesting March is the month for these things.

Not really. Five import a lot and like to run without breaks so January is the earliest they can start and if you put all your shows on at once you have a dry summer. I suspect they regret flirting with US pace for Flashforward - it will be interesting to see the audience drop off after an extended break.

I am old enough to remember when you were lucky to see a US show a year later - if at all for the less popular shows - so have a deal more patience.

I only started getting into The Mentalist a few days ago. I watched a couple of episodes from the last season when it was on but for some reason I never kept on watching it. But I decided to watch it again and I've watched about 17 episodes of the first season in four days :D So I'm sure I'll soon be caught up with you's all in season 2, although I'm still wondering if I should watch it US pace or UK pace, I don't know if i can wait a week to see each episode when I could watch them online :p

Nothing special. It was ok...It was the pilot. Hopefully it will get better. Not sure how this could keep House off our screens.

The plot was fairly dull, some witty one-liners, Not sure why the team has to be so big. Five of them in total, and only he did any work. From the pilot, that seemed like 2 people too many.

It looks like the story behind Baker, his dead family, was only added to make people watch next week. It seems quite a few dramas from the US seem to follow this concept.

Anybody else spot that when Baker was in his Hotel room, the door to the hotel room was behind a wall. Yet he was able to 'see' someone slip a note under his door. So he can also see around corners. :D

I remember Baker from Smith, not seen him anything else...I kept expecting him to pull out a couple of guns and start shooting....it never happened.

Nope, Thursday's show was episode eight.

He didn't know which car was the woman's - or even that she had a baby - until he used the car keys gadget. The car park was huge/full, the car was locked, so even if the baby was "screaming her head off" he'd be unlikely to hear it until he was standing near it (or even next to it).

P.S. Cute main guy is Simon Baker. :)

On Sky there's been absolutely no problems with the series link of either show. :D

Missed it but 3.7m of you didn't. Quite a strong audience for Channel 5. I wonder how many will return for next weeks episode.

Paddy :D

I was disappointed with the finale. I found it to be anti- climaxtic. I was expecting a cliff hanger or at least some relevent information with regarRAB to who Red John was.

Eastenders and Corrie regularly get the top viewer ratings...don't watch them, think they're rubbish. Think it comes down to personal opinion in the end. But I'm sad we lost House though, pity C5 couldn't afford both.

Me too, but that's probably because it was so over-hyped.

The two documentaries were fun. That old clip of Simon Baker in Home and Away, where he's running along the beach wearing only a pair of black Speedos..... Oh My! :D

BTW, I had no idea Owain Yeoman was a Welshman who spoke with an English accent in real life! Kind of a major turn-off to hear his real accent. Much prefer his fake American accent on the show. :D

Looking forward to season 2, UK pace! Thursdays will be so empty now. :(

Can not believe people thought you would get closure on Red John, thats the whole point of the show. Red John keeps Jane on his feet and means he wont just leave the CBI.

I can link now if anyone wants to see.

Its also the same actor as the forensics doc in the pilot.
I'm not sure, the voice sounRAB the same but I think it's a bit lame and surely Jane would have noticed the similarities in their voices? I think if they ever do reveal Red John, it has to be someone the audience will recognise, ie someone on the team. It would be a disappointment for it to be someone barely featured in two series.

In other news, it looks as if five are repeating the pilot on Friday night, I'm not sure if they're repeating the whole of series one, or they just didn't have anything else filler to put on? (Sorry what am I on about, C5 is full of filler:D)

An judging from the voiceover, it seems five have the rights to season 3 :)

All of those things were part of House from the very beginning, and I certainly don't find anything wrong with those aspects of the show. Since I am not a fan of "realism," I don't care how unrealistic any or all of the things you cite are. From documentaries I expect a fair depiction of reality. From fiction I want imagination and something that transcenRAB mundane reality.

Yep I agree. Reading IMDb, a few seem to think Robin Tunney is a bad actress but I thought her acting at that part particularly was great, I don't understand why people think she can't act.

Tried a repeat yest afternoon but was direly bored up to the point I put it on live pause near the end, during the ad's to make a cuppa (so I could FF & not have to watch the dross) & forgot all about it . I did not bother to watch the end when I eventually came back to the TV, I'd completely lost interest & basically did not care who-dunnit tbh.
None of the main characters is likeable imo. Both main characters are arrogant, cocky soRAB & to me it is unbelievable the FBI or whomever would put them working together, as it is obvious from the get-go they are a badly fitting partnership. What the producers thought would cause artistic antagonism I guess but just does not work; seen it all before (Dexter, Medium, etc etc).
Who is that actress playing the uptight agent? It is really bugging me - I'm going to have to Wiki it.
Robin Tunney - seems to have been one of those stock actresses you see in 1-2 episodes on popular series until getting a long running part in Prison Break.
