The Mentalist (Merged)

Im gonna skyplus it on wed from now then. couldn`t understand what happened tonight. tried watching recording and only got the logo. even on USA+1 it still wasn`t on yet csi was.

The problem for me is that he comes across as such a smart @rse.........I know thats par for the course with these profiler types, but he is worse than most!
Will give it anther go, don't like to give up too early as sometimes these programmes 'grow on you'.

I agree the Mentalist is good, but better than House?! Just my opinion but i think House is much better even after 5 seasons. Can't believe C5 dumped it for this. I mean i like the Mentalist, but i agree with the OP, it is quite simplistic and formulaic. Jane/Simon Baker's charm always wins me over though:D

Anyone know how many episodes left?

She did indeed, and I thought a lovely bit of acting when the deaths from last week were mentioned. And her grumpiness gave us some lovely bickering scenes with Jane which I really enjoyed.

I personally thought the finale was awesome, very gripping, the anticipation was great, my mrs who has only watched a handful of episodes, also thought it was good!

Roll on season 2, I the mystery around red john, and cant see it being unravelled until the ending of the show!

Jane rocks

Decent, but no cigar...cant really see why this is so hyped. Bog standard cop drama no 232, with a slight twist...

And whilst American audiences might like Baker's cockiness and arrogance, I think it rubs off badly on a British audience.

I'm the opposite; I really like the running mystery of Red John. Friday's episode was terrific and at first looked like the woman was Red John. So relieved to see she wasn't!

Last week's episode with Jane in prison was excellent too. It's just getting better and better!

I found the finale and the documentaries average but will of course still be watching series 2. It's a shame
Red John was not caught
.

I just hope The Mentalist stays on Channel 5 or else some other channel I can get on FreeSat.

Got to agree it was a terrible finale. It felt like the last episode of the series snuck up on them so they thought "oh sh*t better create an arc to make people want to watch a new series" and just shoved Red John in there.

We have had minimal Red John this season - which is fine by me because the bait and switch in the previous finale was pretty lame too - I had hoped they were going to quietly drop it but no such luck.

None of it seemed the least bit plausible IMHO

This series does get better, a lot better. one of my fave shows atm, used to be C.S.I., but since Gil has left its not the same, but this is fresh its new and just simply fantastic viewing.

Yep I agree, Ayrshireman. It's a decent enough show, but I wouldn't be upset if I missed it for any reason.

The premise is a good one, and I enjoy the 'body language' stuff that 'the mentalist' does, but the scripts (IMO) are dire.

Hopefully it will get better, and I'll stick with it, but it hasn't had the same impact on me as the first series of CSI or Dexter, for instance.

Better than House. Yes.

In the beginning House was fun, innovation, daring with great stories, charcters etc.

Now it is, by and large, the same formulaic nonsense every week

- House being an Arsehole
- Crackpot medical conditions
- Ridiculous medical scenarios (no USA Health Insurance would pay for 10% of what they do)
- Doctors going to people's House's to do forensic work
- Medical malpractice that would get them all struck off
- Weak stories

The unfeasible story with House/Cuddy is laughable.

This is why Lie to Me is a better show than House, and also The Mentalist (Lie to Me is better written, better characters and Lightman is not an irrittitating prick like Jane is).

It is plausible, understated, compelling, well written etc.

If you want a better, more plausible Science based medical drama/detective show than House head off to FX for the very topical ReGenesis. Dr David SanRABtrom is also a gigantic arsehole, but a hugely lovable one.

I love the Mentalist but recently it has been annoying me as the killers have been easily identifiable by the fact they are played by a famous actor. The other week was the guy from desperate housewives and last night the female killer also looked familiar. As soon as I see someone like that I know they have done it. Anyone else think the same?
