The Lovely Bones

This sums up exactly how I feel about the film. I went to see it last night not having read any reviews so not sure what to expect and was very disappointed.

You're right there.

I can never get involved with these "supernatural" things - ghosts and "heaven" etc.
I can't suspend disbelief enough.
I keep thinking "What a terrible load of utter tosh!"

I didn't say that at all don't know how you came to that conclusion.

what i meant was that its fine if you like it & fine if you don't but to try and convince everyone that YOUR view is the only one that matters or counts is the arrogant part.

clear enough?

Perhaps the british feb 19th release date is something due to Paramount targeting a teenage audience and that week most schools are on holiday?...mind the TLB started filming late 2007 so thats around 2..1/2 years till its full british release !! a ridiculous delay!

Well, usually I love those kind of stories (James Herbert being my favourite author) so for me that wasn't the reason I disliked the book at all. I just think it was too slow for my taste.

Quite often the directors cut dvRAB enhance the original movie ..obviously the book would be rated a 18+ at the cinema but Peter Jackson wanted to dilute the movie and in that move its took something off the book story line good or bad !...not sure whether that is ok or not but looking forward to seeing this so much!..again the reviews on utube are far better than critics and on here !

The TLB reviews from the ordanary film punterson its full release in the usa are far better then the mainstream critics !.....most give it excellent reviews ...so annoyed well have to wait till feb 19th to see it over here !

I think a major point is that Peter Jackson wanted to release a shorter film in cinemas after being panned for the long length of Return of the King and King Kong, so material had to go, even if it was shot. e.g. the mother's affair with the detective was shot. That's why the detective has a guilty reaction when Susie's dad thanks him for his help. If you didn't know about the affair from the book it makes his reaction seem a little weird.

Peter has always taken advantage of the DVD format so he will likely release an extended cut, maybe even on the first release (i.e. not a 'double dip' unless the studio force it). I think it only neeRAB 10 minutes or so just to flesh a few things out.

I didn't like the book at all. I thought it was ludicrous.

I shan't bother with the film.

I tottally concur with that view!...the main critisism of the film adaption is the over long heaven scenes to the depriment of the main story ...at 135 mins PJ could have added another 15 minutes or so to include more of the books story and in Rachael Weisz her screen role is limited...mind after seeing some of the usa comments of the film it still a great film and a directors cut on dvd will only enhance the films reputation further
