The Lovely Bones

Despite not being perfect i still enjoyed the film a lot ... i hope there are some deleted scenes put in but im still looking forward to the dvd release on the 28th !

Ill reserve judgment when i see i ...but i dont think ill be dissapointed ..again ill say its probbaly a movie people will love or hate ..i dissagree with you in that i think itll make a LOT more than

I read the book when it was first published and a couple of months ago - and loved it both times. Went to see the eagerly anticipated film this afternoon and was disappointed. The scenes on earth are fine and stick more or less to the book (lots cut out though, but not surprising), but the heaven scenes were awful and a very poor and sloppy interpretation in my view. I expected more from Peter Jackson - heaven (or the imbetween) at times looked like a British Gas advert :(

It's currently only 7 weeks difference. Could be much worse.

I'm always interested in anything Susan Sarandon is in, but I hope the movie is better than the book. It's one of the few books I gave up reading half-way through. Vastly over-rated.

7 weeks is still quite a long time. I think big gaps between countries release dates are a large part of the reason why piracy is so rife.

I loved the book myself but it does divide people. Seems to be very "marmite".

Hannah;42505978']This film is very good however too many computerised graphics and not enough emotion..
The family seemed to move on from Susie's death quite quickly!! I know everybody deals with grief in their own way but there were rarely any scenes between Susie's mother and father after her death.. and no scenes between Susie's mother and the detective, the affair storyline had just completely vanished.
It's a beautiful movie but afterwarRAB.. I didn't know what to feel! It's very confusing. It's one of those movies where you think "it was really good, BUT.." or "It was a beautiful movie but I didn't really feel anything..".. because although a child is murdered, the movie has a relatively 'happy' ending.. so I don't know.. it like switches from being horrific to being 'light at the end of the tunnel'.. a bit strange..
I got a bit teary at certain moments, e.g. when Susie's sister kissed her boyfriend and Susie says something like "And that's it... the moment I'd never have".. And when Susie finally kissed Ray.. and then the very end made me shed a tear too..
the computerised images weren't very realistic which was the most annoying thing.. It makes the film more childish when really it isn't a movie for 12 year olRAB..
I think PJ should have made the movie longer and then cut some of the computerised scenes, and added more of the storyline from the book.. also there wasn't very many scenes showing Susie's relationship with her mother, sister or brother. Only when they were eating breakfast I think!! I mean they could have at least included a scene where Susie is going to a cafe with her mom, or shopping with her sister, or something, just to show that there was some sort of connection there!!..
one thing I will say though is that I think the cast was brilliant..:)

I agree with him digging in the field and nobody noticing despite there being at least one house overlooking the field. That didn't ring true for me.

As far as the safe goes I can't agree.
To start with it's not clear how much happens in real time. By the time shes run and told, they taken everything in etc you are looking at about 10 minutes i would say.

Now the removal of the safe. i said that it's possible depending on what he had in the garage. If he had a trolley like delivery people use it's not that difficult to shift the safe. Trolley under, tip and wheel it to the car/van. When at the car tip back so the upper part is leaning against going into the car. Lift on the axis, yes it would be heavy but it's possible as I've done it with washing machines and various large objects. As you lift on the fulcrum axis you push forwarRAB using thighs and pelvis and it will go into the back of the car/van.

If you remember in the film the problem he had was at the other end. Where as in the house/garage it would be concrete or level flooring, makking movement easier even if it wee just dragging it along the floor, at the waste tip it was uneven soft ground and mostly mud. This would make it much harder to move even if he did have that trolley. The wheels or the safe would have sunk into the mud. It was also at that point raining too. That is why he asked for help because it needed two people to do it even if it wasn't raining. On that terrain at that time it would be near impossible for one person to shift it. It would have sunk in the mud and would be difficult to tip over and over.

I haven't read the book, but one thing i did think at the time was.....
She's not in the safe. We assume she was but we don't know. The girl met us with that younger kid mid-crossover or on the astral plain whichever you prefer. We knew that he had killed others and so I had a feeling it was this other kid that was in that safe.
After he had been exposed and he knew he was going to get arrested etc he would have needed to get rid of that safe regardless of whomever was in it because the result would have been the same.
As I say in the book it may be cleaer that she was in the safe, but just watching the film I wasn't sure.
