The Lovely Bones

It stars Saoirse Ronan, Susan Sarandon, Rachel Weisz, and Mark Wahlberg and is directed by Peter Jackson. I've read and love the book and the movie looks like it's going to really capture the beauty of the novel. A few official photos have been released and can be viewed here:

I'm just annoyed that the UK will have to wait until Jan 2010 to get to see it. It comes out in the US in December of this year.

Rachael Weitsz is hardly used in the film as her affair scene with the detective was filmed but deleted off the screen version for some reason ..and i agree with you on the ending with is very similar to the book ...he should have made it more tension filled as it just enRAB suddenly...thats the main problem as if one hasnt read the book there are several scenes where you just wont get the connection!,,The bones title was in my opinion connected to the novel where the murderer dismembered her body and put it in a bag in the safe .and it was buried in the sinkhole ..again if you didnt know that seeing the film for the first time would be confusing ! I agree Totally with you on the bits missing from the book and a need to explain that in a directors cut ...unfortunatly i read an interview with Peter Jackson and he said there would be deleted scenes for the upcoming dvd release but only one or two extra scenes were made that were edited out of the film!(i find that hard to beleive as there is much missing ) I think if that is true is a big mistake as the book contained a lot more material that the film showed but well have to wait and see !...as for the film id see it again .perhaps its one of those films you need to see again to understand the complexity of the story and its adaption from the book and missing subplots ...in its existing content i still think this is a very good film but PJ could have made it a masterpiece with a longer film and a bit of editing that relate the story closer to the book and has alienated some of the people who loved the book and wanted a closer adaption to the film version! Id also read the book aswell for you to understand the film a bit more !

Loved the book, it's one of my faves.

Just watched the trailer & I think it looks pretty good. Not sure if I could watch it at the cinema though, could shed a few tears...

Some of the more poignant moments from the book were omitted, which left me feeling cheated.

It was a painfully slow build up and just when the film should've got going I felt they decided to end it in a hurry.

Not a satisfying film. 5/10

To be honest, what really put me off reading the book and seeing the film was Richard and Judy and their book of the month:eek: I should be honest and say they were sliming all over the thing and talking as if they'd written it themselves. I've seen it in bookshops and been tempted but am reluctant to read anything Judy Finnegan says is entertaining!:(

Sorry dont agree with the critism of this film having just seen it thought it was awsome ! id give it 9.5/10 I Thought the special effects was stunning and the whole film had a scary spooky atmostphere about it .good acting throughtout paticullay Soarise Ronan who deserves and oscar nomination for a brilliant performance of the dead girl...and Stanley Tucci for his creepy scary performance as the murderer! also Rose Mciver as LinRABay was impressive paticullay in the break in scene witch was pure hitchcock style drama!! /..mind i cant understand how it got a 12a certificate as this is too frightening for under 15s!...my only critisism is that it missed some parts of the book and a longer film say another 25 minutes would have made this into masterpeice ! and the ending ( like a lot of films ) went to quickly to its climax, again a longer film time would have sufficed!,very emotional scary and spiritral and a very thought provoking film that will instill inside you long after you watch it ! Love the book the story and now the film! I think Peter Jackson has done an excellent job of a difficult adaption of the book!

I went to see it yesterday. I've never read the book, but I saw it in a shop beforehand, bought it and read a couple of chapters before I went to see the film.

Bearing in mind I haven't read much of it, I think the film missed the point. It failed to focus on the real drama, and the loss and instead focussed on that inbetween place, and the crappy CGI. I got no emotion at all from the film. Nothing.

Mind the book is brilliant !highly recomended! as for the film im gonna watch it after the 19th and make my own opinion despite the fact its differant from the book and having negative so called " film critics" reviews but on u tube punters give it excellent reviews ..usually when a film gets bad reviews its usually very good ...films are personal anyway ! what one person likes another doesnt ..that why we all have opinions ..give the book a try !...then watch the film!

I really loved the book, so I am looking forward to the movie. I have to admit, I don't have high hopes for the movie after reading all of the reviews, I'm not sure if after reading the book it will add to my enjoyment of the movie, or make me like it less because they will miss so much out.

I read this book on holiday about 3 years ago and cried my eyes out. I then passed it over to my OH and when he got to the last page, he had tears in his eyes. It was so moving, even more moving since I lost my mum, haven't been able to read it since.

I doubt the film will live up to the book but I wil give it a chance.

I dissagree with you on the cgis i thought they were stunning and in genrally linked to the emotion susie was feeling! what was missing from the film for me was the family emotion story the affair the sisters story and the mother and father tension and ruth in paticullay who was often mentioned in the book was missing ...and again was changed in the film .again a longer film would have focused more on that and as the book story is quite along drawn out emotive story a longer film time was important ...what PJ did was made the mistake of diluting the story to get a 12a certificate and cut scenes to trim the time and consequetly missed some of the emotion you say was missing! i think PJ was over cautious!

goodness! this production has been in production for years now.

it was 2005 or 2006 i remember it being anounced. have been a huge Jackson fan since seeing Brain Dead - so when i got wind of his latest film, i took interest. he spoke in a commentary for THe Frightners DVD in 2006 about this!! on how he was buying/building a house, letting the weeRAB, creeping plants, etc, grow around it and leave it for the next couple of years until filming for this movie begun - to give the house a natural aged look!

i am ashamed to admit i had not heard of this book before the involvment of Jackson was anounced. i did take interest afterwarRAB and read it.

i did very much enjoy the openning of the book - and the first half was very powerful, and got me spellbound

but didnt like the end at all!!! it was very disappointing. i just hope changes made are invovled around that ending

The scenes where the girl is in the underground den and the scene in the bathroom to me paticullay is frightening and unsuitable for under 12s .dunno where the sensors choose certain film certificates ..powerful thought provoking film !!
