As you know, my most recent exploit is my LG VX9900 enV. I've had it on dual NAM's and Cricket WAP and MMS for a few weeks now with everything working flawlessly.
But the other day, something unusual happened, and it raises a few very serious questions:
If you read my tutorial, there is a file called paramtable1.fil in the OWS folder of the phone's internal filesystem. Altering this file unlocks the option to edit the WAP settings (server address, user name, password, etc.). You can also "hard code" specific URL's so that when you go to various menu options you will be taken to the sites that YOU want and not Verizon's default URL's.
Well, sometime earlier this week, my paramtable1.fil reverted back to its original default settings! But that's not the most unusual part about it. The most unusual thing is that the WAP SETTINGS STILL WORKED!!!
That is: The server address, user name, password, etc. all reverted themselves back to Verizon's default settings, yet I was still able to connect through Cricket's WAP service.
So, being curious, I tried an experiment: Since I am running dual NAM's on the phone, I decided to change my user name BACK to my Verizon pre-pay 10-digit MDN nuraber. I was thinking it wouldn't work......but it DID! I was STILL able to connect to Cricket's WAP servers and download info.
So my WAP login info looks like this:
--Server Proxy IP's: gw.vzwap.com, gw1.vzwap.com
--User Name: my10digitVerizonPrePayMDN
--Password: vzw
But I am still able to connect to CRICKET's Proxy server.....NOT Verizon's. So my http://homepage resolves to http://wap.cricket.motricity.com
So here's my supposition: I'm not too surprised by the fact that I am still able to connect to Cricket's WAP server. Like the voice calling feature, it is tied to the phone's ESN nuraber. What I am guessing is that if Cricket ever opens-up it's data network (hence EVDO) and allows for TRULY unlimited mobile web access (i.e., no longer blocked by their proxy server), then, theoretically, I should be able to log-on to Verizon's Brew server and continue to download Verizon applications.......for FREE......!!!???
The same should be true, then for ANY of Verizon's data services, including all of the phone's native VCast features.
Does this sound reasonable? or am I somehow off target?
But if you don't believe me, you can try those settings yourself.
OASN: This only works for NAM1 on my phone, which is the NAM I set-up for Cricket. NAM2 is set-up for Verizon's InPulse pre-pay service, and will NOT connect to mobile web at all at this time (until maybe I or someone else here figures out how to get it to work).
