The Golden Compass Thread-Dec. 7,2007

I love this series alot more than Narnia. I mean, I like Narnia, but as far as the books go, Id choose HDM over Chronicles.

Anyhoo..still havent seen it yet, probably wont get a chance to see it till next week.

I can't believe Roger is still alive though..unless in the second one, they kill him really early or something.

I haven't seen the film yet, but in terms of the casting I was a little annoyed. I know that the movie will never be as good as the books, because they are so indepth and detailed but I will now really have to view the books and movie entirely seperately. (with LOTR this wasn't necessary). Nicole Kidman, though an excellent actress, was wrong in my mind as Mrs. Coulter. She's meant to have black hair. And I think I imagined Lord Asriel as bigger and more angry looking than Daniel Craig, I'm not sure, the kids were good though and Iorek. Can anyone tell me why they changed Iofur's name to Ragnak??

The polar bear fight scene did own.

And yeah, Daniel Craig's character got like 10-15 minutes and he had a bigger part in the first book

I am now somewhat in the last book Amber Spyglass!

That's true, but Roger is still alive by the time the movie ends.

Movies can go far, far away from the books (The Bourne Identity, for example) so who knows.

i'm still adjusting to the kids..lol i know the books established the kids' ages..but when i read the books, the picture i had in my head was that they were older lol

I got the book series for Christmas, so I'm re-reading the books..:)

Still havent seen the movie. I gotta try and do that soon!

Ohhh I love these kind of movies I can't wait until this one comes out. I wanna read the book before though..

Roger dies in the first book and I know Will is in the last book so how could they even substitue one for the other? I don't think they will. I am only on the second one so I don't know as much as the rest of you..

I don't know. I didn't like the remake of Narnia (granted, I didn't like the book either), but Lord of the Rings has made me believe that translating book to screen can be done well  I don't know, the books are so good so it's a hard act to follow. But it looks good, yeah.

I'm so looking forward to this! I absolutely love His Dark Materials so I hope the movies do the books justice but from what I've seen so far it looks great! :yay:

Yay! :slinkie:

I have loved the series for years now and every time I saw a book series being made into a movie I would tell everyone 'You know what would make a great movie? Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials'. And in January I heard it would be turned into a movie, but now, seeing the poster and everything, I'm so excited :yay: I can't wait, seriously, I don't usually like these big-budget fantasy adaptations (didn't like Narnia), but this looks incredible.

To everyone who hasn't yet read the series, DO SO NOW. You won't regret it.
