^ I saw a PS2 game yesterday

I saw the movie today and it was ok, little kids shouldn't watch it at all....lots of scary scenes in the movie, I did jumped in my seat...once LOL like other people
I mostly wanted to see it because Nicole Kidman was in the movie. :)
I wonder how the 2nd movie will be like?

Are you serious!? That's insane! Will's from our world. The angsty ending of the series depends on ....certain situations (trying not to spoil) that doesn't involve Roger at all! If they go in that direction I'll be beyond angry.

Thanks for commenting Kathy! :)

Yeah the books are excellent and from what I'm reading here, they help you even more to know what's going on in the story if the movie is confusing. That's to be expected.

ETA: Apparently the movie's Video Game has a missing scene from the film that might help the movie-goer make sense of the ending. Or lack there of.

I finished the book trilogy before I went to see the movie in mid February. I rarely enjoy books more than movies. I think this was the first time I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book more than watching the movie. Although my husband didn't mind the movie at all, in fact he liked it very much, I was disappointed in the execution of adapting this very involved world into a movie.

I agree the film felt rushed. Had the pace slowed down a little and took more of the book's approach, I think it may have faired better.

I do hope they at least complete the series. Its such a wonderful story.

I'm reading The Subtle Knife right now. I definitely hope it makes it to the big screen!

I completely agree.. and one of the biggest... worries that I got when I walked out of the movie was that they'd replace the role of Will with the role of Roger in the films.

I haven't seen this movie yet but I just finished the series and I posted some questions on the book board for those who've read the trilogy and who could help me.

I've read some mixed reviews so I'm now leary about seeing this film and I was hoping it would have done better than it did because IMO the best part of the series is when Will Perry comes into the picture. If this film does poorly overall my chances of seeing Will Perry on the bigscreen are pretty much gone aren't they. That bites.

ditto with all the controversy.

I just saw the movie today and loved it. I did get spoiled on some of the major points cut out which is good because I would've been angry otherwise. I'm on the second book right now :)

Oh....remind me not to come to movie threads if I haven't read the books yet

I've heard of Pullman's series and came close to reading "His Dark Materials" but decided to read Jane Austen's "Emma" instead. I will never forgive myself for that

That being said, I REALLY enjoyed this movie. I had no clue it was going to end the way it did but I really hope the second part will be released in the next year. Now, I know I don't have the advantage of having read the books so i can't really critique too much. Polar bear fight= total ownage ( for theose of you that have seen the movie you know which part I am referring too) Everyone in the theatre pretty much had the "WHOA" reaction for that part. I really enjoyed Lyra's performance though. Nicole Kidman does a good job at being pretty yet still diturbing at the same time. Daniel Craig definatley deserves more screen time, but like I said I haven't read the books so I don't know if his character is like that in the novels as well.

This has definatley motivated me to read the books...if I ever finish 'Emma' that is ;)

Good to know. :)

I think the movie was way too rushed. Each scene was just bam bam. So I definitely hope that there will be an extended cut.

And I'm glad that it did better in the foreign market. I wonder why, though...?

the movie made a profit so we might see a sequel.

it only made $68,268,000 in the US but its foreign gross is $245,728,619. which makes a total of $313,996,619. the movie had an 180million budget

This movie is just yelling Narnia.....but with polar bears which are cuter than Aslan:lol:

The controversy makes it more interesting.

I'm a Christian but I don't get into movies like that. People can watch whatever but that doesn't mean it's going to change their faith. Or think that the Church is all big and bad......been there done that (remember the Reformation)

I was wondering as well if they would have the whole series even though it hasn't been a smash at the box office. Oh I hope so..with Roger's death and just I wanna see the last 2 movies in general

so there's a good chance?

Oh really!? That's hopeful then.

I think the second one might be easier to cut the budget more so than the third since half of it takes place in our world. But the third, my goodness, there's going to be a real task to cut the CG budget for that one.

here is the link, it's someone's Photobucket account so all credit to them :)

yeah we fans are underrated sometimes :(

To be honest, when the trailers started comparing this to Narnia and LotR, I was put off and kinda hated it. When I heard about the controversy around it though, it kinda piqued my interest to the point where I was actually excited about it.

Saw it and I have to say I was throughly confused. I did pick up the compilation book just to see what the hype's about. :P

i read a quote from someone at the studio who said that they will make the second and third movies even though TGC has only done modestly at the BO so far.

But that means there will probably be budget cuts...hopefully it wont affect the scenes in the next 2 too much

Yeah, that's what I thought, but really Iorek, Iofur...They must think we're really dumb lol Can you give me the links for the art?

Thanks :D
