The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

Hmmm, odd. For some reason I thought that was your favourite album and I did find that unusual because that isn't normally the case with big Floyd fans. My favourite would probably be Meddle, but Wish You Were Here is rather godly too.

Fair enough, then I can only give my reason for liking it. Since the album is basically a dadaist work the form of an album.

I like it because it manages to corabine old style rhythm n' blues, out-of-consciousness lyrics, and bouts with random yelps and farting noises. Which can lead to hilarious results for some, but I personally think it jams.

It's a disjointed, sloppy collage of avant-garde concepts old and half-assed. The fact it seems so crazy is one of its attractions.
It also has the effect to make itself completely unlikeable in the first listen, I thought it to be more of a novelty when I first heard it, but I gave it more listens over time, and within a few weeks I thought it was ****ing brilliant.

....In addition to what you said, the stooges changed the definition of what is acceptable and what is crap. Im certain that if there was no stooges there would be no sonic youth. Im sure prog played a lesser part.

To Boo Boo-most bar banRAB dont try anything new or write their own songs. Most bar banRAB try to make carbon copies of classic rock songs, and arent too abrasive and are easy on the ears for middle aged folks.

Im sure ``should I stay or should I go`` is a bar band staple. I dont think the same thing can be said about any stooges song. Just read about the reaction to the stooges at whatever bar the played: thrown bottles, taunts, rotten food thrown at them. They didn`t fit into the bar band mould and thats why they`re still relevant and a band like the Guess Who are not.

I guess so, man. I don't know how you can not like it, honestly. Time? Money? Breathe? Some of the best and most creative music ever written at the time (and of all time, for that matter). The only song that gets to me is "On the Run", but it helps move the album along so I'll even listen to that one. "Any Colour You Like" trips me out without drugs. It's pop, its progressive, it totally rocks...I can't find a single thing wrong with it.

That's so weird, I just got off the phone with one of my friend from back in the day and we talk music from time to time and he recommended that band to me... definitely checking them out now.

I have another one, it's alright but I don't get how people rate it so highly

Can't really stand Prog Rock to be honest, but I thought there would be at least one exception..

And a band like Pink Floyd could've been that exception, because they're one of the best/famous prog rock banRAB there is but I just don't find them and the genre enjoyable at all. Can't stand Genesis, don't like King Crimson and I'm not 'avin Tool either..

So yeah, maybe it's just prog rock I really don't enjoy. But I don't like admitting I can't stand an entire genre (unless it's Hip-Hop.) I wanted to find some exceptions

Maybe you could give Krautrock as try, seeing as it'd basically prog rock only more rhythm based and has less of prog rock's annoying cliches.

Give Neu 75 a listen to start you off and see what you think.

I love that documentary. Best part was when they interviewed Mayhem. "We are the best fooking metal band in the world...if you don't like it...fook you". Classic.

Yeah, I personally didn't but I could understand people deriving some enjoyment from it. What I can't understand is why it's so universally lauded as one of the best things ever.
